I am not a goth, nor do I dress the part. However I do enjoy some of the music associated with the term and when my friend told me another Dracula's Ball happened to fall on a weekend I had off work, I couldn't resist.
I had to work Friday night, so unfortunately we didn't hit the road until around 10:00. With a few pit stops we reached the Philadelphia Downtown Marriott at 4 AM. Luckily I had prechecked-in so our reservation wasn't lost. Only a few precious hours of sleep until we started our long day so we went straight to bed.
Our first stop in the morning was the
Mutter Museum- a collection of graphic, ghastly, and gruesome medical pictures and specimens. Sadly I could not take pictures in the museum itself, so all I have is this picture of the lobby-

It was definately an interesting sight. How many other places can you see stillborn conjoined fetuses? Or an intestine that grew 6ft long and as wide as a cantelope?
After the museum we made our trip to
Digital Ferret Record Store for my friend Dave. He is much more into music than myself, and it just so happens that many bands he likes hails from the Dancing Ferret label. So sending him into this store is like giving a kid a Toys R' Us shopping spree. Last year he walked out with 12 CDs I think (combined total of his own purchases and others bought for him as gifts). We expected another good show this year, but after an hour of searching he only came out with 3 CDs. Apparently he had bought most of the other CDs he wanted online a short while ago and had most of his shopping list already completed. Oh well, maybe next time.
It was late by the time our Digital Ferret spree ended, so we went back to the hotel and prepared for the ball. I wore the same outfit as last year, but without the special effect contacts and makeup. I'm scheduled for LASIK surgery this Thursday so no contacts or makeup near the eyes for me. Bony got all dolled up in a red and black dress. I may not dress gothic (costumed parties are exceptions), but I do think it's pretty sexy on girls. Here are some shots of our group.

Inside was much much less crowded than last Halloween's show. It was so much more comfortable this time and the bands were pretty good. The best part by far is always people-watching. You've got your serious goths with their tattoos, fangs, and dark attitudes; You've got your people who couldn't care less and seems like they were dragged there, easily recognized by the khakie pants and Aeropastale shirts; And you've got the average people like myself who just want to get in costume and have some fun and listen to music.
I bought Bony some of these plastic slinky headpiece things called Cyber Falls. Well they certainly do make a statement! Sorry, I didn't have the picture with me wearing the Cyber Falls on my camera. Someone else took that photo.

So we watched the bands, drank lots of alcohol, and had a pretty good time. Next trip to Philly will probably be around Halloween unless some other bands decide to make a stop there first.
