Who says first loves never come true?
Spent an hour plus reading Innocent Blue; illustrated by Ogawa Azumi and the actual story by Yukishiro Marie ;dkjtlkdjgldkjg I love some of her other novels gaaah. Honey was ;___; so were the Zenryoudkjgdlkj ones
The main character Nana (夏奈), a first-year high schooler who has had a weak heart since he was young; after his parents passed away, he came to live with his uncle and his family and is constantly cared for by his cousin Fuyu, who's a year older and is the student council president at their school.
Under the overprotective Fuyu, Nana felt suffocated at times. Then one day, while waiting for Fuyu in the library; he meets Rin - the new transfer student who intrigues him.
Long story cut short, Nana and Rin fall in love; but Fuyu is suspicious about Rin and decides to do a background check on him. He then finds out that Rin is actually his 'brother', a result of an affair their father had. Fuyu also now recalls meeting Rin once, seven years ago when Rin's mother bought him along to visit their father, while Fuyu's mother was out. He remembered how Rin's mother kept crying, while Rin just sat there and stared back at Fuyu who was peeping into the living room - heard how their father offered Rin's mother a sum of money enough for her to live out her life. And suddenly, it all fell into place.
Rin only approached Nana out of revenge.Rin brings Nana to a pub, and invites some guys to gangrape Nana. When the guys were forcing themselves on Nana, Nana kept crying and crying out for Rin who just stood outside calmly smoking a cigarette and seemed oblivious to Nana's cries. Fuyu gets there and threatens the guys away saying that the police were on their way; Nana laid there crying on the floor, still calling out for Rin, but Rin just walked off and never looked back.
In the hospital, Fuyu's mother tries to talk to a depressed Nana but to no avail. After she leaves the room, Fuyu comes in and tells Nana the truth about Rin. After he leaves too, Rin comes in by the window and comments that Nana was in better shape than he expected. He says that since Nana finally knew the truth, he should understand that it was all just an act; he was used. Rin plots how to get near to Fuyu's mother this time to break the news to her. Upon hearing that, Nana begs him not to, in exchange for his silence, he would do anything. But Rin just shakes him off, saying he has lost all his usefulness. He admits that everytime Nana talks about his 'family', he had to contain the urge to throw up, and his hatred for him grew each time. With that, he says goodbye to Nana and left through the window.
Summer break came, and Nana leaves behind a note saying he had some business to settle, and he would return once it was done and set off to his destination - a mansion by the sea overlooking a church. Rin is surprised that Nana managed to locate the place.The mansion was up for sale and would be sold soon. Rin gets pissed and said Nana was an eyesore and told him to get lost. But Nana says that he just wants to stay by his side; Rin says nothing about it but he reminds Rin not to get in his way or speak to him. Nana knows that he could not stay there forever, but he had until his bottle of pills ran out. Three days has passed, and Nana noticed that Rin would often stare out the window on the first floor, like he was looking at something. Having that thought in mind, Nana climbs the stairs but loses his balance. Rin catches him and is worried, but Nana just laughed, happy that Rin was speaking to him again. Over the days, their relationship rekindled and soon, his bottle of pills was empty. That morning, he asked Rin if they could go for a walk on the beach.
While walking, Nana says that he did not believe Rin's feelings for him and what they have been through so far was an act; but before he could confess, his heart acts up and he collapses on the sand, much to Rin's horror, who ran off to get help while Nana lay lying in the sand, hands outstretched willing Rin to come back and not leave him.
What Nana had wanted to say was; no matter what it was, or what had happened, he had already fallen in love with him; from the day he saw him jump in from the library window, and alligned the books like the blue colour of the sky.
Timeskip; and Nana graduates from highschool, although he is a year behind due to his health. He goes home, celebrates with Fuyu and his family, their family.
Four summers ago, when he collapsed in the sand; Rin managed to find help, and he was sent to the nearest hospital and he somehow made it. One week later after he was moved out from the ICU, Rin had vanished, leaving behind only a pink coloured seashell in the bottle by his bedside. Nana finally accepts to undergo the heart surgery that would ultimately make him better; and after half a year's worth of nurishing and check-ups, he was finally able to live life like a normal teenager. Fuyu's mother finally finds out about Rin, but took it quite badly. In the end, she was still unable to accept that her husband has an illegitimate son out there. Fuyu's father fell ill, probably due to that; and Fuyu decides not to recognise his ambition to become a doctor to help out at his father's company.
Timeskip again pfft. Four years later, at a medicine school, Nana is talking with a senior and tells him that he plans to specialise with children. The senior is surprised but nods in understanding as Nana revealed his heart condition in the past. The senior mentions another student who plans to specialise with children but explains that Nana probably never met him since they were in different years..and points out to someone talking to a child down the corridor. But Nana recognises that person and calls out to him. That person too looks up and is none other than Rin...
I dunno how but somehow this manga made me cry. Not the bawling type but silent crying type? Yes I'm making no sense here. I felt like smacking Rin's head against the wall at times, seriously. But it's understandable that he's bitter due to his past; but ouch. Poor Nana.
