OK, weird

My new addiction, Facebook, led to me looking up some of the folks I was in the church youth group at the First Baptist Church of Austin with back in the 80s.

Our youth group was, um, kind of different. We would listen to Violent Femmes in the church bus and one of the boys would always steal some girl's bra and hang it on the antenna or the rearview mirror, and we were infamous for the guys mooning people out of the church bus. And our youth minister would say, "If you get in trouble, just remember, you're from First Baptist Shreveport."

Also, H. once broke a glass door just by touching it. It was awesome.

Anyway, it was like a dog chasing cars - I've found two of the guys and added them, and it's weird to see how old everyone looks; their kids look just like I'd expect though, LOL. The funniest thing is that one guy is friends with a doctor I used to transcribe for, which completes the six degrees of separation more completely than anything else could. :D

I find I'm kind of NERVOUS about talking to these folks, which is ridiculous since they witnessed me at my very worst in high school, so I couldn't possibly make a bad impression on them now. I guess it's just because it's been, what, twenty years? I only go to church for weddings and funerals now, and several of them were probably at my mom's funeral, but I wasn't exactly Miss Social that day.

It will be interesting to see what they have to say.

ETA: I found my best friend from junior high! And she friended me back and we had a chat -- she'sa NURSE of all things, never saw that coming. But it's completely kewl, and she's still pretty and awesome. And she told me another girl I was friends with was looking for me, and I found her, and then I found another friend too, through the Bedichek alumni group. Hahahaha I really do love Facebook. I'm sitting here with a goofy ass smile on my face, remembering all the dickens we got up to back in junior high. :D
