Not normally one to blog more than a few times a month or so, what with the projects piling up, but the Spirit Awards- that is, the ceremony for the Indie bit of films, mates- was recently and what a pleasant evening that was. I couldn't personally attend, but that sweet little flick '(500) Days of Summer' ran for quite a few awards. Got the Best Screenplay, as it damn well should have and for that, I'm a box of budgies! More than that, however, I'd have to say that Miss
Gabourey Sidibe's performance in Precious was well worth the award. Congratulations, Miss Sidibe, you earned it.
A Serious Man, Sin Nombre, Amreeka and The Messengers were among the nominated films. Out of the documentaries, I'd suggest 'Which Way Home' and overall, if you're looking for an mad slice of humor, then I'd try taking a look at Lyn Shelton's 'Humpday'. Something like a...what are they calling it, 'awkward bro-mance?'.
Regardless-
The Spirit Awards were a good batch this year but damn, am I looking forward to the mainstream Oscars tomorrow night. Work's on hold for this one.
Anyone else going to watch it?
