Okay, so I'm back in the US safe and sound. I successfully made it through my first flight without crying! And I loved it! haha. So I guess I will now give a day by day account of my trip to Costa Rica!
Sunday:
We left the church for Miami at about 12:30. The ride down there was fun, I slept some of the way. In my van was Ryan, Hemi, Sarah, Carissa, Kent, Mark, Sydney, and I. That right there is a fun group of kids! So we made it down to Miami, and got the the church safely. We unloaded the vans, then set out again for the beach. Too bad we never made it, apparently Spring Bling was going on with like 8127503476 million rappers, and there was NO WAY we were getting through to the beach. So we decided on dinner. We went to Pollo Tropical, it was okay I guess. The meal, not great. The entertainment however, was amazing. haha. Our table had a big spit ball fight. It was amazing. I got hit in the ear, and my poor camara got his twice in the lense. After dinner we went to K-Mart we walked around K-Mart taking tons of pictures and being our usual retarded selves. haha. We then headed back to the church. We had a small devotion, then we talked about what we thought about the scripture, well that was short lived because there were police cars just outside of the church and everyone wanted to go investigate. So we did. And we found bullet holes in the glass of the church, needless to say we were all a little freaked out. Some played a round of Big Booty, then we hit the sacks.
Monday:
We headed out for the airport at 7:10. I got up at 6:45. Ew. So we get to the airport, and I was freaking out. I had been on a plane prior to this however I was two years old and did not remember a single thing, probably because I slept, but this time I was wide awake and terrified. Well, we get our tickets and I find out Ryan is sitting next to me. So I felt TONS better. And if you know my youth group at all, you will know that we did not make it successfully through the airport without saying bomb at least once. Of course it wasn't loud, but it was still said by Mr. Kent Ashby. haha. Well, the flight went well and we arrived in Costa Rica at about 11:45. We met our Joshua Expedition guide Amanda, then boarded Senior Don Miguel's bus. He loves his bus...a lot. We went to a little diner thing where we had our first meal of rice and beans! Then we went to the market there in San Jose. It was great. I bought my mom a pair of shoes, Dustin and Jesse keychains with their names engraved of wood from the rainforest. And myself, a whistle and a necklace. All in all I think I did well. Then we went to the hotel to clean up for dinner. We ate dinner then did devotions and went to bed. Not before I had words with Jordyn. There started my drama for the week. Immidiately following that fiasco, I went to sleep.
Tuesday:
Tuesday we got up and had breakfast at 7:30. It was a lot of fruit. And...weird looking cheese. I didn't eat much. Then we boarded the bus for a two hour trip north to the rainforest! During this 2-hour trip, I got extremely car sick. However, when I get car sick I don't throw up I just feel like crap for the rest of the day. Wonderful. Luckily it passed after I was out of the bus for an hour and a half. Well, we zip-lined throught the rainforest. It was amazing! I really don't understand how some people can think that all of that just happened by chance. That everything we see, and the complexity of the things around just happened because of a bang! Wake up and smell the coffee! Look around you! Look at the sun, the trees, the sloths, the monkeys, the ants, the ocean, the dirt, Mark Smith, the solar system, do you really think all of this happened by chance? After zip-lining we had lunch at the little cafe there. It was really good. Then we went shopping a little more on our way back to the hotel. We all showered and got ready for dinner. Again, we ate dinner then had devotions, and went to bed around 11.
Wednesday:
Wednesday was the first day of work. We drove to La Carpio. It wasn't as bad as I expected it to be, but it was bad. As we walked up the the church everyone was attacked by a bunch of kids screaming "Gringos!" We dug ditches to build walls for either the clinic or the school, I'm not sure which, but one of the two. I met a little girl who lived across the street from the church named Carmen. She was adorable! I walked over and started making faces at her and she laughed, next thing I knew she was in my lap. She was so cute! Then the wind started blowing and kicking up dust that got into her eyes and so she went inside. I went back to work. At around 12:30 lunch was ready. It was really good. It was rice and chicken. After lunch we cleaned up the place a tad, and got our stuff ready for the VBS type thing. We walked down to a church maybe a 1/4 of a mile away. When we got there, there were already kids there. We did face-painting, blew up balloons, and gave out bubbles. After all of that we just played with the kids. They were so sweet! WE played and played and played some more. It was great. I met a little girl named Marie-Annas. She and I were basically joined at the hip that day. She wanted to learn English so I taught her a few things, and as I would point out things, she would tell me in Spanish. It was pretty cool. I got to hold a baby too! And when she had to leave and her sister came and took her out of my arms, she started crying. It broke my heart. We left around 5:00 which brought us to the hotel at around 5:30. We cleaned up and ate dinner. After dinner we left for La Carpio again for the church service. It was SOOO cool! The first song they sang was "Celebrate Jesus, Celebrate" Of course our group was doing the motions and so the pastors wife told us to come up to the front and show everyone. That was fun. After the church service we went back to the hotel and went to sleep.
Thursday:
Thursday was another work day. We did the same thing labor wise, I worked a lot harder Thursday than I did Wednesday. It was a lot of fun. Even the manual labor was fun, we had lunch around 1, then went to another church. We sang songs and did a craft with those kids. We could only stay for about an hour and a half, though. There was a little girl and a little boy who were by my side the entire time. The girl couldn't have been older than 2. She wanted me to hold her, so I did. Whenever I tried to put her down, she would wrap her legs around me and wouldn't let me. She was sweet. After the VBS we went to play soccer with the other youth from the church we were helping build. They were a lot of fun. We went to a park and a bunch of people played soccer. I hate soccer, so I didn't play. I took pictures. This is where the picture of Kent sniffing a tampon was taken. haha. that will be on my MySpace shortly. We left the park and went back to the hotel where we showered and got ready for dinner. Immidiately following dinner was our devotions. It was really good. We then had the "hang out time" with the team. I wasn't exactly in a "hang out" mood, so I packed. Then I went to bed. Fun huh?
Friday:
Friday we were able to sleep in until 9:30! It was great! then we had to pack and get ready to leave. It was sad to go. I didn't want to. We got the the airport around 12. We said goodbye to Amanda(who by the way is the coolest person alive!) And got ready to leave. We had lunch in the airport and left at like 2:45. On the plane, I was next to J. Erb. She's so funny, I love her to death. And the guy directly in front of me worked for World Vision! I thought that was soooo cool! It took us FOREVER to get out of Miami International. We finally drove out of the airport at 8. We met the Ashby's in Alligator Allie and Mark and Kent left with them for a race tomorrow. We stopped in Naples for dinner, and I had McDonalds...DUMB MOVE! We got back to the church at 12:15.
That was my trip to Costa Rica. And if you are wondering why I am posting this at 4:45 in the morning, it's because I got food poisoning from McDonalds...LOVELY!
I want to be Your hands, I want to be Your feet, I'll go where you send me. I'll go where You send me, and I'll try to touch the world, like You touched my life. And I'll find a way to be Your Hands. This is a lifetime, I promise I'll complete, from now on I'll go just send me where You want me to. I finally have a mission, I promise I'll complete, I don't need excuses when I am Your hands and feet. Hands. Feet. GO! GO! I will go, I will go where You send me I will GO! GO! GO! GO! GO!
James told Sydney that Mark and I can burn the same night that I found a note from him saying we would be best friends forever in my Bible. I cried myself to sleep. I just wish I could go back and change not telling him right away. I miss talking to him. We were so close and now he wants me to burn in Hell. It hurts. And I'm so mad at myself. However, I can't talk to him about it because he wouldn't listen nor would he stay for me to finish talking. All throughout the week, I'd think about it and almost cry, but I'd stop myself. Well, the last night I must have cried for an hour. It was awful. I just wanted someone to tell me everything would be all right, but it won't. And even if someone had told me, I wouldn't have believed them. I just wish we could talk.
