None of this tells us how to get out of the city.

[She leans on the wall.]

It's all too dated.

[Frowns a little, eyeing the large map again.] Of course it doesn't -- but it's not like they're careless enough to just leave an answer like that lying around, either. If we want a way out, we'll need to bargain. Which means figuring out what the hell they're after in the first place.

They're trying to rebuild their own city. They're just going about it wrong.

And that means they don't want us to leave. It doesn't matter what we offer them.

[She looks at the map too.] Do you think any of those cities have anyone living in them?

They might be, but I wouldn't be so sure that's all they want.

[He pauses, pocketing his journal and folding his arms over his chest.]

Dissimulo is deserted. Accido...I've heard it mentioned before. [...] I think that's where Miriama was from. She said there were others...other people alive. Maybe.

Even if someone could make it there, what would be the point?

You never know. [He falls silent for a minute.]

...They may be the bastards in charge, but they're people, too. They have things they care about. Things they might be willing to trade or bargain for.

[Well that sounds like something she would do. She smirks.]

And how do you plan to find out what those things are?

[He eyes her for a minute, fully aware that it'll be a cold day in hell when he can fully trust her. But...]

Figure out who they are. What they're doing.

[He reaches out, taps at the word 'Accido' on the map.]

I have a feeling it's got a lot to do with whatever's happened between this city and those people.

Those people?

Have you been there before?

No, but I figure that finding a way to get there couldn't hurt.

[She studies the map.]

We just need a mode of transportation.

Or at least the right direction.

[He pauses, eyeing her; that was awfully specific, come to think of it...]

Unless you've got something in mind?

[She tries to approximate the distance to Accido, though it's hard to tell how long it would take on foot. Too long.]

Well there must be some way. If the monsters here can't be tamed, we must have the technology.

[She looks at him.]

Don't you know how to build an engine? You can bend metal.

[He's starting to get a bad feeling -- or more specifically, a feeling like he's about to end up saddled with a hell of a lot of work.]

Tch-- engines are complicated. It's not as simple as just making the parts.
