I've been slacking lately on my 100 Adventures. But it doesn't mean they haven't been happening. Over the past week, my youngest brother, Tanner, who's 16, has come over 3 times to work on homework. Mostly, his essay on To Kill a Mockingbird, which was especially brutal, considering that his teacher seems to thrive on giving the kids open-ended assignments - no length requiement, no specific topic - and then grading them really harshly. Tara found her paper from the same year, on the same book, and Tanner was like, "Why do you have this?!" and "This looks nicer than any of my papers look! By the time I hand mine in, they're all sweaty and wrinkled!"
He also mused about how it was possible that he was doing better in school after suffering three concussions than he was before. ("I don't get it! Is it like, a 2:1 ratio...") Haha... We suggested that it was possible that he had more time to focus on school now that he wasn't in football. He has a really interesting (and different) way of processing and writing than either Tara or I do. He says things out loud and waits for approval before adding them in, often asking, "Does that sound good?" Made for somewhat tedious progress, but he got finished!
Later in the week, Tanner was over again, along with our cousin, Jake, who's 17, and our friend, Kayla. We watched Glee together and it was lots of fun. Some spontaneous bursting into song by all 5 of us, especially rewatching the cover of Lady Gaga's Edge of Glory. Tanner made a comment that one of the song and dance combinations was like Newsies. We had a lot of fun. Oh, and we watched the finale of Criminal Minds again, where Tara wondered what kind of unsub I would be. Jake decided that I would, "give little kids awesome lives!" Aww... (I don't think 'unsub' means what he thinks it means...haha!)
We've been to Jake's last variety show performances this month, and last night, to his last choir concert. I can't believe he's graduating high school so soon! Time goes by too fast!
Looking forward to hanging out with Adam and Hailey tomorrow!
