Work is driving me nuts. I can't wait to go to the beach -- this is supposed to be my first real "summer" vacation in 3 years because I always end up working during the Easter weekend. Well wouldn't you know it: we're shooting an ad that weekend.
So I was looking forward to Labor Day. Then I get called to a meeting in Indonesia -- the only country around these parts that doesn't observe the damn holiday. Ok at least I like Jakarta and I love the shopping there and I stay at the freakin' Ritz-Carlton...but it's a HOLIDAY! (Mind you I travel there when they have a holiday and work from my hotel.)
I hereby resolve to go on a real vacation that will be long and distant and I will not check my work email at all.
And the Agency is getting on our bad side coz the quality of their work is slipping -- which is bad because that was the only part that was consistently great! And truth be told in my team I'm the easiest to please.
Luckily I have mastered the art of writing nasty emails then editing it to temper it down, then deleting it without sending. (Which takes great discipline trust me.) Hostility I have learned is actually more often useless.
It's a good thing our regional set-up helps us avoid face-to-face presentations and I hate it because I spend half my energy controlling my facial expressions and the other half trying to come up with an intelligible comment. But it's not because I make faces at the agency presentation -- I make it at my boss! Oftentimes my boss and I are Paula and Simon (and me=Paula which is strange in itself.) For instance:
ME: (10 seconds after the last slide) Ok great! I get the intent and the message fits the brief. I think it's clever and endearing. However I would try to emphasize blah blah blah...but we're in the right direction.
BOSS: (Long pause)...You know what's wrong with the ad is that in psychology/ mythology/ consumer behavior/ religion/ yada yada
ME: /rolls eyes (or.../snickers) or /scrunches forehead and whispers "What?!?"
Luckily the Big Boss talks last and more often then not agrees with me but in more words of course. Also he has had 10 minutes to think so naturally it's still a more brilliant version than mine.
I've been dreaming about work (coz thinking about a stupid innovation before I went to bed) and I have a blasted zit from the stress. I need to back go a yoga class soon.
Flying to Bangkok in less than 24 hours -- please please please protesters, stay away from the airport!!!
