latest university shooting: too politically incorrect?

Feb 17, 2010 23:39

What happened at the University of Alabama is a tragedy on many levels, and the following is almost a petty point, but still.  It always irks me that in cases such as this the alleged perpetrator's picture, life story, achievements, and shortcomings are detailed in the main news media.  Yet those, whose lives were cut short, whose families are left with a gaping hole, are merely mentioned by name, if that.  So I went to the U of A website, to the department page, to read about the work these 3 murdered people were doing.  Only to find that, of the three dead, one is clearly of Indian subcontinent decent, judging by the name and picture, and the other two are black.  There are no other black or indian faculty members in the department.  Of the remaining 2 minority members of the department, one is among the injured.  Yet, this simple fact is not mentioned in any major news media coverage.  There is plenty of speculation about grudges held and disappointment at denied tenure.  Is speculation about possible racial motives in the shooting too politically incorrect to discuss?
