I...have no excuse for this. Weirdfic spoilers.
It all happened too fast. The memory was just one blur that she couldn't remember.
What she did remember before it blurred was the sound of Black*Star cursing as he rapidly typed on the computer, cursing the one who'd caused this whole mess. The tension of being found by the demon had filled the ship's cabin to the brim and Soul anxiously tapped his hands on the ships controls as they turned towards the Furthest Ring, ready to go after the one's who'd ventured there.
And then Black*Star fell.
Chrona fell.
She fell.
And then suddenly everything was beautiful.
It was all a rush of sound and color and light and suddenly, Maka wasn't afraid anymore. She wasn't afraid of anything. How could she be afraid of anything this beautiful?
So many colors swirled around her and there were books that she'd wanted to read all her life floating in the air and she was all too happy to snatch one out of the air as it floated by.
(Stop...)
It wasn't that bad at all here, not at all.
Nothing this pretty could be bad for her at all.
(Stop, stop it hurts.)
Her legs carried her around the clouds and rainbows and the floating books
and there was singing and laughing all around. She floated down into the starry skies that were upside down
(Makeitstopnonononostopstop!)
from the blue above, surrounded by happiness and she began laughing along with the pretty voices.
The pretty voices grew louder, ringing in her ears and singing her soul to relaxation
BNIGRAGN FWATHR GOLOT-DOM
and she could float free here without a care in the world. No more burdens of being a Meister
(STOPSTOPSTOPSTOPPLEASE!)
CTHYKA DUYR WTSLL MI AGIM, IA, IA, MLIGH
or worry about everyone else or worry about having to win a game
IA, IA, YUN-DRINN FHTAGN, MULUGHNA O'BHNNG, IA, IA, MNUGYATHET FHTAGN
and she could just stay here forever and not have to leave.
She never wanted to wake up
(OHGODITHURTSSOULHELPMEEEEEEE!!!!)
NAHALOTHIP OBNGOH FTHNIG NI NI
But she did.
And when she did everything was disorientated and she was sweaty and shaky and her hearing was muffled and ringing.
"Maka!" Soul's shouting voice was barely heard over the hearing, but suddenly he was above her, looking over her. "Maka are you OK?!"
"Ohmygodwhatthehellwasthat?!" She managed to get out through her clumsy tongue, clinging to Soul for a moment and gaining her bearings. She could hear everyone else who'd fallen asleep waking up, all equally as frightened.
She managed to stand after a moment on her own. Maka barely had a second to sort out what she had just seen before a flash of crackling bright light filled the cabin.
Everyone yelled something, but she didn't know what.
Maka turned around and time stopped for a single heartbeat, getting a good look at what the demon they'd heard so much about was.
Green lightning danced around his form, silhouetting his black carapaced form and wings. The sword in his hand glinted in the energy's shine and his jackel face was contorted into a predatory smile of sadism.
He lunged.
Maka was aware of the sound of metal slicing cleanly through flesh as the single eye of the Sovereign Slayer glared at her.
Then there was just blood.
She should never have woken up.
