My Uncle Robert died yesterday. My sister Dawn called me at 11:50 am and told me that I needed to get up there, it wasnt going to be long. So I stopped and bought some donuts, chips, etc and drove up to my Dads. George told me everyone was at Roberts, I was like, ok and he said "you need to get down there", I, know, I dont want to, "Your dad is down there, you better go", Fine, Im going, but I dont want to.
I mean all we were going to do was sit around and wait for him to go, I could do that at Daddys house.
When I walked up to the house Michael was waiting at the porch, I asked how Dad was, "Ok", and Robert?, "he went peacefully" he's already gone??? "he went about 11:30, he said he saw his Mom and he had to go, he gave Aunt Joan 3 kisses and passed on"
Then Dawn came down & brought me up, Daddy made everyone get out of the way, so that I could go in. There were SO many people! Dawn held my hand as I went in the bedroom and I am so glad she came with me. My knees buckled and I would have gone down, but she held on to me and I cried on her shoulder, for one second, I had this hysterical urge to just really let it go. But I pulled it together and went back out on the porch.
I know that crying is only for ourselves, but I cant seem to make myself stop. It seems so wrong to cry when Robert is the one who died, crying seems like a way to draw attention to yourself and away from the real reason we are there. To honor the life and memory of this man. But, I can't seem to stop.
Anyway, I am going up this morning, to take up some more food & stuff, work this afternoon. The calling hours are tomorrow night and the funeral is Wednesday.
I love you Uncle Robert
Robert A. Davidson
