crickets in my fic meme.
Storm's comin' Claire says quietly, hands deep in her back pockets, eyes staring up at the clouds. Jack nods and slices another piece of fruit from the mango in his palm. You're not worried? He shakes his head.
I like the rain.
When it starts, it nearly floods them out, coming down so fast. Claire shivers and rolls her body inward, letting Jack keep his arms tight around them. He's different now.
Late into the night, she finds his lips with her own, unknowingly. He doesn't pull away, but she flinches, afraid she's done something wrong. The jungle doesn't know what we are, he whispers, pulling her closer and pressing his tongue into her cheek, covering her waist with his hands. Large, just like its.
Her body freezes in his arms and she has to pull away.
The first time it touched her, she bled for days. She spit it into the water each morning. It ran down cuts in her arms and legs. And she pressed her fingers deep at her center and sobbed, feeling the twisted ache of wanting him again when she knew she wouldn't survive it.
Jack lets her leave. He's more patient now.
Sometimes she's gone for days. He doesn't mind. He knows now when she'll leave. I'll be here when you're ready to come back. And it's not a promise. It's just a fact.
She means to leave for a day, maybe two. But days turn into endless weeks, and before she knows it, it's been four months. When she comes back to him, he isn't angry, but he doesn't look surprised. There's no where have you been? or any questions, really. He smiles, and beneath all the wine and the riddles and the constant mutterings she has somehow missed, he's still Jack.
Did you learn anything new? She smiles and rubs her hands over her knees, nervous almost. Giddy at the thought of being near him again.
I learned I miss you when it rains. A small flash of a smile and he nods, reaching for her trembling hands.
Come to bed.
