Walking around, a certain Viera knew where she was needed. She remembered where Balthier lived and since she hadn't seen him around lately, she was going to pay him a visit. It was high time he came out of his hiding place.
Upon reaching his door, she looked around for a knocker, eyes lighting on the intercom. Pressing the button, she leaned closer to speak.
Balthier heard the intercom buzz, but when his ears picked up the sound of Fran's voice, he rose and staggered over to open the door.
The pillow balanced atop his head, a sheet half wrapped around him and his crumpled bedclothes did nothing for the haggard face he wore. It brightened a little for Fran.
"Why Hello Fran, what brings you here?" He asked, forcing his usual light hearted tone.
Fran barely hid her look of shock behind one raised eyebrow. Blinking at him, she took a few steps inside and looked back at him. "I came to check on you," she informed him. "And as it seems you are not your usual self, I would prefer to keep an eye on you until you are back to normal."
Turning away, she silently told him she wasn't taking no for an answer. "Now, tell me what is the matter."
"If you insist then" Balthier said cooly as he could, he was a bit desprate for a little company.
"Oh, just trying to recover from this whole messy buissness. Whole matter put me out of sorts" He explained, going to put some tea on for them, tredging along at snail's pace.
Fran took one look at him and strode into the kitchen ahead of him. "What do you want and where is it?" she asked, down to business. She wasn't letting him do the work. He was obviously not up for it at all. "Lie down and I will bring it to you."
"You really dont need to, Fran. I'm a grown man" He said, obeying her all the same and going back to his bed. He already had the tea out on the counter, ready to be made. His kettle was by the sink and mugs were hanging from a rack.
Fran didn't spare him a glance as she set about fixing the tea and waiting for the water to boil. Inwardly, she was smiling, knowing she would be a blessing for him today, whatever the reason for his hangover.
When it had been prepared, she brought the two mugs into Balthier's room, setting one on the stand by his bed. "Drink and tell me what caused this."
"Just disgusted with my father and everything going on" Balthier took the tea and nursed it until it was cool enough to drink. The liquid calmed him and he took an asprin.
"I'm certainly glad it's all sorted out" He shook his head. "I dont know how I would have been able to handle my father going to prison on false accusations. I'd have had to busted him out"
Fran just shook her head, silently wishing all this hadn't had to happen. Inwardly, she hated seeing him like this and wished she could go beat up the one responsible... mainly his father.
And I would have been at your side.
"Is there anything else you need?" she asked, not entirely sure what to say.
Fran would gladly give him the company. No question there.
Taking a sip of her tea, she looked at Balthier over the rim of her mug. Standing up, she went to sit down where he had indicated he wanted her to be.
"It has been straining on all of us," she admitted wearily. "No one is sure what to think or who to talk to. I imagine things with Dr Cid will be stressful for a time." Looking back up at Balthier, she eyed him with a look slightly akin to worry.
"Any shred of respect I had for the man will be diffcult to find again, at any rate" Balthier agreed. "I suppose we all need to just carry on and do our jobs.."
Balthier paused, finding irony in that statement. "You know... I never came here to teach and I dont think the prize I was orginally after is worth this kind of hassle..... why am I staying?" He asked himself out loud.
Fran nodded once at his first words, then looked up at him sharply. "You're here because where would the students be if you didn't stay. We have to be here for them. What would they do if they had new professors every other week?"
Balthier pouted. That wasnt the response he'd wanted. He wasnt a teacher, he wasnt a teacher, he wasnt a teacher. There he said it. Well, thoguht it anyway. He wouldnt dare mutter it aloud.
He watched fran move... it was certainly admirable those who taught for the sake of their students.
Fran sensed he wasn't quite satisfied with her answer.
"If you're not happy, no one's making you stay," she told him. "I became combat instructor so I could make sure my students knew how to defend themselves. Your class has merit, as well, but if this is too much..." She let the sentence hang, knowing how difficult it must have been for him to deal with the accusations against his father.
"No, No.... that really isnt it. I just dont quite know what I really want... but I know I want to stay for whatever reason poessed me" He shook his head. "I dont know, maybe it feels like I need to see things though...."
Upon reaching his door, she looked around for a knocker, eyes lighting on the intercom. Pressing the button, she leaned closer to speak.
"Balthier, it is Fran. I came to see you."
