"Oh, ...Tidus is it? Come on in have a seat" Balthier waved him in warmly.
Tidus walked in slowly, not wanting to seem assuming or anything. "Thanks."
"So, what can I do for you?" Balthier asked, setting aside his stack of papers. The top one was flipped open and the name hidden, but Balthier was having a red ink field day on that one too.
Tidus spotted that top one, and felt his stomach do a loop. "I...don't think I did too well on that last midterm...and I-uh...was...uh...wondering if I could...maybe do something to...um...make up for it?" His voice was hesitant, and he was clearly very anxious.
Balthier, "oh?" He dug around and pulled Tidus' exam out of the stack. "...Oh" he said, reading his own comments. "Indeed. However..... you aren’t the lowest score, so take heart in that. Did you do the first extra credit assignment?"
Tidus scratched his head. "I...tried..."
Balthier hmed. "Well if you tried, there's no reason at all you should receive a poor grade. I'll square off with you, I've been under a lot of stress and I haven’t been teaching as well as I'd like"
Tidus simply assumed asking what had stressed out his prof was none of his concern. "So...I don't have anything to worry about for now, then?"
"Well.... you're learning this material come hell or high water"
The blond shrugged a little. "Yeah, I am."
"What exactly is the difficulty?" Balthier asked in earnest. He had a knack for learning these kinds of things, it was something he took for granted.
"I've never really been too great at academics, to tell the truth."
Balthier frowned. "Well, you'll find a way to get though" Balthier gave Tidus a pat. He couldn’t avoid indulging his curiosity. "If you're disinclined to study then why did you come here?" he asked.
"My dad, actually. He managed to set up accounts and contracts and shit so that I can't do anything with my life unless I've got a college degree."
"How frustrating" Balthier gave Tidus a sympathetic look. "Fathers....." He rubbed his forehead. "I can commiserate"
"Yeah, sure." Tidus didn't think fathers could get worse than literally taking control of your life. He was completely unaware of how wrong he was
"You know..... if you help me out while I'm in this bind, I’d be inclined to see to it you'd be rewarded" Balthier offered Tidus. "It's up to you though, you could fend for yourself"
"Okay...what's up?"
"I have a great deal of shit on my hands and if some one would do my paperwork for me, I could be a much better teacher. However because I'm an undergrad I don’t have access to a paid teachers assistant" Balthier began to explain, seeing how much it would take to give Tidus the picture.
"So...you want me to be your lackey?"
Balthier nodded. "Precisely"
"Um...I guess I could. I don't really have much better to do with my free time."
"Excellent! Congratulations, you now have a teacher in your debt" Balthier began gathering stacks of paper to pawn over to Tidus right away.
Tidus's eyes go wide as he looks at it. "You mean that?!"
"There's 48 students in your class, and oddly enough every one of them thinks they're entitled to some attention"
"What did I just sign up for again?"
"Grading, making quizzes up, preparing homework assignments and handouts..... I'll take care of the exams and I'll back check your work"
"That's...most of what you're supposed to do, isn't it?"
"It's supposed to get done, I really need your help, Tidus" Balthier said persuasively.

Tidus just kind of nods. "What could be going on that would make him hand over this much work?" he accidentally asked himself out loud.
"It's a long story. Basically my father has gone completely insane" The pirate sighed, "I've got to find something to do with him before he undoes himself. I really cant discuss the exact matter though....."
"i said that out loud, didn't I?"
"I'm afraid you did" Balthier gave Tidus a pat on the shoulder. "Might watch that"
Tidus sighed to himself. "You'll have to tell me what the different deadlines are, or I'll never get stuff done on time."
"We'll stick to the syllabus" Balthier said, printing Tidus a copy of his own version with notes on it.
"Uh...thanks. I guess." Why did I agree to do this again?
"Thank you" Balthier nodded. "If there's ever anything I can do for you, please don’t hesitate to ask"
"Um...sure..." Tidus got up to walk out, wondering how he got himself into this.
Balthier sat back down, feeling one of the weights off his shoulders. He fished a glass flask out of his file cabinet to ease the rest and have a quiet afternoon.
