Busy weekend. I went to the beach on Saturday with a friend and her 2.5 yr old daughter. We found the naturalist and had an interesting chat about what's on the beach. Apparently, everything in the NW is edible (if not necessarily tasty). She didn't advise eating anything around the city, due to pollution.
She also pointed out some Nori seaweed (what goes around sushi) and several other kinds of seaweed. There's 40 or 50 kinds along our beaches.
We also saw several baby sea stars, some anemonies, several dead crabs, and of course, the requisite clam shells.
All this made me sadly too late to catch an afternoon movie with other friends, but definitely worth the trip to the beach.
On Sunday I got up early to wrangle the Seattle Animal Shelter Mascots
http://www.seattleanimalshelter.com/ for the Furry 5K, their annual fund-raising event. It did not rain, and there was a good turnout. I haven't seen any numbers yet, but I suspect it was successful.
It also didn't rain, and the folks enjoyed the mascots, as well as all the other activities.
Then, as if that wasn't enough, I went to a steampunk themed birthday party for the incomparable Master Payne.
http://members.aol.com/payne/index.htm There were many fine costumes and great food and of course the fabulousness of hanging with friends. We were at Gasworks park, and it still didn't rain, although it was rather windy. I foolishly didn't add more sunscreen, so I had a very light burn, that should be gone by tomorrow.
All in all, a good weekend.
Now I suppose I should do some actual work.
