Adventures in Catland

I finally got another cat. Jasper had just been extremely demanding for attention. I figured he was bored and lonely when I was gone.

He's no longer bored, that's for certain. I got a three year old boy cat from a friend of mine who is a vet tech at a local clinic. Jerry was raised to be a hospital cat, but just never got used to all the strangers tromping through.

Jerry is smaller than Jasper, and a pretty gray and white, with darker gray stripes. He's also supremely fiesty. If cats can have ADD, this cat would be an easy diagnosis.

Jasper spent the first two days growling and hissing at Jerry whenever Jasper saw him, but otherwise carried on as usual. Jerry seemed more baffled by this behavior than concerned.

The deal-breaker came when Jasper was sleeping on my feet as usual on the third night. Jerry hopped up to say 'hi' to me and Jasper was PISSED! He leapt up and chased Jerry off and the chasing went on for the rest of the night. Same thing next couple of nights. This would have been less annoying if they were quieter about it and didn't wait until I was just about asleep before starting up again.

Last night, fortunately, they gave it a rest. Jerry hopped up to say 'hi' to me, and poked his nose into my eyes and mouth. I suppose it's his version of a head bump. He also pokes his nose into my ears.

Jasper hasn't slept with me the last few nights, but I did catch him napping yesterday in the carrier I brought Jerry home in last Friday.

Jasper is much less demanding, but he still comes to snuggle with me. Jerry can't seem to sit still that long. Jasper still begs for food, while Jerry has found most of the small hidey-holes on my various shelves. Both cats will get up on my kitchen counters. While Jasper looks for food, Jerry slurps water from the tap. Jerry also laid on the stove top when I turned the oven on. I warned him not to burn his butt on the burner that I had on, but he seemed unconcerned.

There is still chasing going on, but while Jasper seems somewhat serious, Jerry seems to think it's a game. Since Jasper isn't laying any serious smackdown on Jerry, I'm not worried about it. It's only when Jerry does something Jasper doesn't like that there is chasing. I suppose Jasper is trying to show Jerry who is boss and Jerry is just too clueless to understand. I was warned there had been some oxygen deprivation as a kitten.

Now if they would just do the dishes...
