life at home is interesting. i'm back in my own tiny purple bedroom in our tiny brown house in tiny oakdale connecticut. i'm enjoying the company of my parents, emily, dot, and ariel. we're all keeping very warm in front of the woodstove.

i have gone from "bambi," complete with multi-colored scarf and spunky attitude to "miss grondahl," armed with only her dress pants and substitute teacher plans. i am temporarily working for the montville school system as, you guessed it, a substitute teacher. i spent an entire day with a bunch of rowdy second graders and realized that i might need to brush up on things like telling time and simple grammar. i also realized that first graders should NEVER be allowed to run rampant in a library, but checking out books using the laser scanner was really fun.

mark and i met up in albany a week or so ago to check out job prospects and possible living arrangements. i was thinking about moving up to syracuse, where he is staying with his mom and researching grad school, but we both decided that albany made more sense, since it's pretty much halfway between both our families. after looking at about five thousand (okay, i'm exaggerating) apartments, we found a really quirky place in downtown albany called the knickerbocker estate. it's a HUGE victorian style apartment building that, about a century ago, was a brewery, then a hotel, then a crack house... and it has been under renovation for the past seven years. we put a deposit down on a really great apartment with a claw foot tub and a walk-in closet. we're going to be living on a cobblestone street!

unfortunately, the albany ihop isn't looking for any help at the moment. job prospects don't look all that great, but i am applying for a job doing some screen printing at a design firm nearby. hopefully things will pan out well as far as that's concerned.

it doesn't look like i'll be going back to nature's classroom in the spring, which i am quite misty-eyed about. taking some time away from the woods should give me more time to make some artwork and cook some killer vegan meals.

i'll be around until january first and although i have much packing and holiday cheer to attend to, i would really like to make the most out of being in my hometown for awhile. there are a lot of people i haven't seen in what seems like forever that i would love to reconnect with. my cell phone is always on, my little ford tempo is usually up and running, and i'm pretty much game for anything.
