BROADWAY UNDER THE STAR!

Jun 17, 2003 09:01

No, the subject line is not a typo. There was exactly one star hanging over Broadway Under the Stars, so Kim said it should have been called Broadway Under the Star. (But, hey, one star is more than you can usually see in Midtown Manhattan, so I'm not complaining.)

I spent about 45 minutes with Melinda (Skylar's sister) and John (Melinda's hubby) before Skylar and Kim got there. The five of us had a table to sit around and a decent view. (Not great, everyone was very small, but we could see the stage, and we could see the screens which made their faces visible.) And... Oh my Goddess! ::dies:: Linda Eder, Bebe Neworth, (I might have gotten the spelling wrong on her last name, but that's Lillith from Cheers and Frasier) and Chita Rivera (::dies again:: ) were all there. I seriously worship these women! I saw Linda Eder when she was in Jekyll & Hyde and she sang one of the songs from that show, so that really excited me. And Chita Rivera is the Broadway queen. (She's the original Velma Kelly in Chicago and the original Rosie in Bye Bye Birdie and the original about-a-million-other-roles.)

It was a great night. (With the exception of Mayor Bloomberg getting up and speaking... For a few terrifying moments, we thought he was going to sing. No applause for him. Evil man. Yeah, anyway...) I'm very glad that I decided to go. :)

I should go now, being that I have a math exam in a few minutes... (ahhhhh tests this early in the morning? Nooooo! BRAIN MALFUNCTIONING!)
