This Post Was Brought to You by the Letter "D"

Mar 11, 2011 14:48

I could be focusing on the fact I haven't been writing much lately and haven't finished Christmas requests (or, really, started on most of them), or I could do a meme! :D YAY, MEMES.

This one goes out to darling Sirona who posted the meme before me.

2. List (and upload) 5 songs you love that begin with that letter.

The rules are as follows:

1. Reply to this post and I'll assign you a letter.
2. List (and upload) 5 songs you love that begin with that letter.
3. Post them to your journal with these instructions.

Originally, I tried to rank these by how much I liked each of them. Halfway through deciding which songs to keep and which to toss, I decided that wasn't working. In no particular order, here are the five songs I love most that happen to start with the letter "D" (as assigned by sirona). I'm sure I'll edit the entry in a few days after realizing I forgot one. Or several.

Devils and Gods by Tori Amos

Devils and gods, they are you and I.

I could probably talk about my mad Torilove for days. Devils and Gods happens to be a song that kind of sounds pretty on the album and has pretty cool lyrics and all, but sounds amazing live. All I have is youtube to prove my point, but I seem to recall (with great jealousy) that someone on my f-list has seen this phenomenon in person.

Dragonball Megamix by, um, according to my iPod, Dan M.

No lyrical excerpt. It's just--y'know. A thing.

All apologies about the video--it's missing about 30 seconds of audio for the end, but be honest, most of you probably aren't listening to all of these all the way through, anyway, right?

This was originally some kind of random mash-up of DragonBall Z clips with the Mortal Kombat theme, I think, and it's probably not the sort of thing I'd keep on my computer these days if not for the nostalgia value. I remember getting it off of Napster, back when Napster was cool. After listening to the song again I've realized two things: a.) I picture DBZ Abridged's Vegeta's voice as Vegeta more than Vegeta's actual dub actor, and b.) I've had it so long that I was surprised to find it on youtube, because it's so damned old.

Don't You Mourn the Sun by MiMi

You can probably tell by the fact that the youtube clip is not a video, just a movie poster for Eclipse, but this song was on the Eclipse OST. I conned a friend into buying the CD so that I could copy it without the guilt of having paid money for it, while simultaneously getting the advantage of having all the music. I could have pirated the CD, but I didn't want to have to hunt the damn thing down, even if it required no effort, because that required admitting to myself that I was totally interested in a Twilight series OST.

Anyway, the song: I always picture some kind of cowboy AU for Naruto, wherein Naruto has died honorably in battle, and Sakura is out to avenge his death by kicking Sasuke's ass all over the place until he comes home with her. Despite the depressing premise, I always imagine that the story has a hopeful ending.

Dance Anthem of the 80s

You are so sweet.

I like Regina Spektor's music for a lot of reasons, and I think this song happens to contain all of them. I have troubles pinning down an exact reason for loving this song as much as I do--partly, I like the piano and I like Regina's voice, and I like the lyrics and--I mean, I just happen to love every aspect of the song.

The Devil Never Sleeps by Iron & Wine

Everybody bitches there's nothin' on the radio.

This is actually a bit outside of Iron & Wine's usual sound--it's a lot faster, the piano is unusual, and the general tone of the song is just. Well, it's kind of not the norm for Sam Beam, y'know? It's one of my favorite songs by the band, nonetheless.

Honorable mentions:

Detachable Penis by King Missile for being hilarious and awesome.
Deceptacon by Le Tigre because--I'm not really sure why I like the song so much. It's just bounce and pop and fun.
Da Bomba by Youngblood Brass Band because I love the brassy sound of the wholde damn band.
Delicate by Damien Rice just because it's a damn beautiful song.
