Title: Uppity Pirates
Author:
prettyorianna
Banner by:  deshisoraba
Pairing: Akame, RyoPi.  Other possibly later.
Rating: NC-17.
Genre: fantasy?  It's got pirates...
Beta by: my cat.  okay, seriously, nobody
Disclaimer: I don't own KAT-TUN, any of its members, any other JE people.  I write this for fun and for other fans of these fine folks.  But don't steal my plots, mmkay?  I put a great deal of time into them except for when I'm randomly spastically spitting words onto a page.  But I value those too...

Summary:  Captain Kame and his bold crew of "adventurers" take to the seas in search of wealth and fame and cheesecake.  Or, well, if they can't have all of that, then at least wealth and fame.  They can always buy cheesecake later.

An Important Note:  Whenever it refers to "I" or "me" it is in fact referring to me, the writer.  When the characters address "you" it really is referring to you, the readers.

Author's Note:  Sorry to make you wait so long.  And I really would like this to be longer but I gotta go to Dollar General and then I gotta get to work on dinner and I doubt I'll get a chance to write more tonight.

Chapter 17 ~Fruits of the Search~

After confirming everything Ren said with Maru, Kame had Tegoshi round up all of the off-shift RABS and set the lot of them to searching the ship.  If the process smelled as bad as Ren said it did, Kame really doubted the stuff had been made on board.  But, since he could think of absolutely no legitimate reason anyone on board could have for owning tashren extract, maybe they could find a bottle in someone’s stuff and then they’d have the poisoner.

The really frustrating thing was that nobody remembered seeing anyone go into Kame and Jin’s cabin.  Everyone was out doing their jobs and yet this still happened!

At least the shadowing of the Sayaendou was going smoothly.  Oh, they had to know they were being followed… but, the Sayaendou was bigger and slower than the Real Face.  There was no way they’d outrun the Real Face, so the Real Face just needed to stay on them and out of range of their cannons.

The course plotted out by Ren earlier seemed pretty spot on.  Guess that was one less thing to worry about.

Once Kame got the search set in motion, he went  back to check on Jin.  He could hear sounds from Ren and Tatsuya’s cabin… guess that answered his curiosity over whether the two were involved.  He just hoped they’d kicked the author out before getting started.

Kame smiled to himself.  When that crazy author wasn’t looking, he’d rounded up everyone and they’d secretly hatched a plot to exclude her from all smut until she caved into their demands for more respect and greater creative license.  So far, everyone seemed to have done a fair job of it and the author hadn’t figured it out yet.

Though he hated punishing the readers like that.  There had to be a way to split them up, so the readers could enjoy the smut but the author be excluded… but so far, he’d been too distracted with the poisoning and getting the map fragment.

Closing the door to the cabin behind him, Kame slipped into the bed next to Jin.  Putting a hand to his forehead, it felt like the fever was gone.  Guess Doc Maru was right, thank goodness.

But the more he thought about, the less sense the whole thing made.  Had the poisoner intended to kill him and just wasn’t very good at it or was his intention all along to not kill?  But, if not to kill, then what was the point?  If he was sick, Jin would take over.  And if both he and Jin were sick, Ryo would take over.  Frankly, with the possible exceptions of Doc Maru and Ren the navigator, everyone else was completely replaceable.  Oh, don’t get him wrong; he didn’t WANT to replace any of them.  But both Maru and Ren were among the top in their field whereas everyone else was just typical… even Kame.

Ah, well.  More questions than answers, it seemed.

+++

He must have fallen asleep, because next thing he knew there was a knock on the cabin door and when he tried to sit up, Kame found that Jin had a death grip on him.  It took him a minute to wiggle free because Jin seemed determined to not let go, but once he was free, he answered the cabin door.

“Sorry to bother you but we found something,” from RABS F.

Nodding, Kame said, “Show me.”

The man handed him a small vial.  “Doc Maru says this is the right stuff.”

“He’s sure?” Kame asked, feeling a small bit of pride at the initiative the RABS had taken to make sure they had indeed found what they were searching for before disturbing him.  Kame always liked it when his men took the initiative in ways like that, so long as they follow their orders too.

Such a little vial...

“Where did you find it?” he asked finally.

“The galley.”

Wait, what?  That didn’t make sense!  “Where in the galley?”

“In the back of the small cabinet.”

Well, Kame certainly hadn’t expected that.  The only ones who really spent all that much time in the galley were Junno and Tatsuya and Massu and Tegoshi.  Everyone tended to avoid the galley because they didn’t want to be drafted as taste-tester for anything Junno cooked.  But he really didn’t see any of them as the poisoner.

Then again, he didn’t really see ANY of his crew as the poisoner.  He supposed he couldn’t afford to not consider them all suspects.  Still, it didn’t sit right with him.

Well, at least with the vial confiscated, whoever it was wouldn’t get another chance.  “Did you guys find anything else suspicious?  Other strange bottles?”

“A few but Junno assured us that they’re spices and they’re supposed to smell like that.  IF you can believe he actually knows anything at all about cooking…”

“Alright, alright.  Thanks, RABS F.”

“You do know my name is Anthony, right, sir?” but RABS F just shook his head and walked off.

More questions.

Well, at least Jin was doing better.  And they’d be on guard now.  Whoever it was, they wouldn’t get a second chance.

Now what?

+++++++++++++++++++++++

The story continues:
Chapter 18 ~That Other Ship~

A/N:  Damn, so short.  Not even 1000 words.  But it'll have to do for now.

Anyways, who do you guys think the evil poisoner is?  And is he incompetent or did he not mean to kill?  Muahahahaha!  You'll have to wait to find out!
