Told Ellen I'd post this.
prompt: my ideal place
I've never wanted a huge house. I would prefer to have a small, cozy cottage somewhere by the ocean. It's got a decent-sized plot of land, but is near a small to medium-sized town. The countryside surrounding it is hilly, but not so steep that biking is a chore. My vision of perfection is more cluttered and comfortable than expensive and extravagant.
The exterior of the house is pretty and welcoming. Cherry trees border the driveway and path, and in mid-April they send down flurries of fragrant pink and white petals, coating everything in a blanket of delicate spring snow. There is a flower garden on the side of the house and flower boxes on the windowsills, all meticulously tended. A large cat with funny, curled-back ears lazily grooms herself on the sun-warmed wrap-around porch. From the hammock on the porch, it's easy to hear the waves breaking and smell the salt in the air. It's the perfect place to curl up with some tea and a good book.
When the weather turns cold or wet, the inside is warm and cozy. In the kitchen, a shelf along the walls houses a variety of brightly-colored teapots. A woodstove in one corner emanates heat and soft light, making it a favorite spot for the cat to nap. A kettle bubbles on the stove, issuing forth a whistle accompanied by clouds of white steam, waiting to be poured over tea leaves and fragrant spices. In the adjacent dining room, a huge vase of pink and white Stargazer lilies blooms on the dark wooden table. Their fragrance envelopes the entire room, and they are flanked by two candles. The room is decorated in rich creams and purples.
The bedroom is bright and cheerful in blues and greens, with some splashes of purple. A set of glass doors overlooks the ocean and opens onto another small porch. They allow plenty of sunlight to filter in, but also have sheer curtains for when it becomes too much. There's a soft, comfortable bed, but nothing too big. The walls are lined with bookshelves, although part of one is taken up by a rack displaying several beautiful swords. What little space isn't occupied by books houses keepsakes and mementos that I've gathered or received as gifts. There is a small desk in the corner for my small white MacBook, and a comfortable chair for reading in. In the connected bathroom, most of the space is taken up by a huge bathtub. There is a showerhead mounted on the wall above it. The whole room is white and decorated with a delicate floral theme. The closet is full of different scented bubble baths and huge fluffy towels. A window framed by lilac curtains overlooks the garden, and on either side of it are shelves of candles.
What I really want is something simple and comfortable, a space that is uniquely me. Somewhere that I'm free to do things at my own pace, on my own schedule. Somewhere that is quiet, but within a reasonable distance from civilization. Ideal for me is a good book, a strong cup of tea, and a purring cat in my lap for company.
I got a 100 on it. Comp I = boring, but very easy A.
