::long rambling rant that came about thinkin how our generation can be percieved, including me......::
we are the ones who sit in chairs and stare at screens that stare back at us. 'the world at our fingertips.' what goddamn world? is the world so shallow and maleable that we've managed to fit it in a tiny box on our desk? is it that predictable and small? is there anything out there anymore that can not be fucking put into words? that exceeds 3-D? 2-D even? pathetic. we are the generation that pours our hearts out to the internet. dear livejournal, you'll never guess how original i am today. we are the generation that masters shortcuts and cheats. we know screennames instead of last names. we spend our days dreaming of revolutions that we know we won't start. [well...unless of course we buy that chevy truck.] we hide in the spaces between the notes of our indie rock music. we go to underground places we want underground music we want underground likes and dislikes oh god forbid we come above ground.
GOD. ha! we are the generation that knows no god. we are the ones who rule ourselves. make our own rights and wrongs. burning to the ground the traditions of our mothers and fathers, our grands, and greats and great greats. we are the warriors who fight for words inspired by heartbreak. we click click click in stead of lick our fingertips to turn the page. dewey decimal? i think i've heard that name before maybe. we love a short story. but we pride ourselves in novels. Novels that we search the cliff notes for? but what bragging rights would we have if we mentioned that? besides we dont have nearly enough time to read the full version. We are such the busy generation. Oh a friendly reminder: know your ninteen-eighties trivia, folks. you will be tested daily! we strive so hard to be different. to stand out from the world. to know what the others don't. to have the first listen. to believe in a cause first. to find that band first. so that no one else has that shirt that we wear. FYI: being different is the next black and pink. keep up.
want more
generation: catharsis. we are the souls that are ignited by romance and put out by reality. we fall in love with black characters in a little box. we email our hearts to each other while we have sex like jack rabbits just for the novelty of it all. we love to feel so close to each other. failing to make real connections and real bonds. we are the walls we build and we stand strong by them. we want the fruits. we want the fruits. fuck the tree. give me the fruit. we are all artists. we have mastered photoshop and paint. we can make any picture of a girl look so crazy and inverted you'd never know it was her. we will make you all so beautiful in pictures. then we'll see how many comments you get. Cuz thats love right, over flowing comments rather than hugs or waves.
our little heads packed tight with information. every single day being force-fed sex and money and greed. demolished by those chisled bodies. and those nice ass shoes. i really need those shoes. see how pretty she looks. we watch the television. a cathode ray tube blahblahblah, just let me watch the real world. because i need so badly to know what happens when 7 strangers who've been picked to live in a house stop being polite and start getting real. er.....no...wait, you know what? that show is ridiculous, we'd much rather watch the news. so that way we can state our unorthodox views on politics and current events in daily conversation. everyone needs to know how smart we are. and how out-of-the-box we think.
we are a generation terrified of silence.
but boy, do we love to shout and make racket and make sure that everyone recognizes our foolishness. we capitalize on people like william hung. laughlaughlaugh at him while we make his dreams come true. it's like when they voted the fat unpopular girl for homecoming queen. oh and american idol? psh. we don't fall for that shit. we read about our own idols, in awe of their existence. oh i wish i wish i could sing like that conor oberst. we search for things we know not of. we love things like hope and honesty and stars, but not the star shape, because that's soooo last year. we are the generation that puts bullets and hearts together. we mix blood and roses. we just can't get enough combining guns and pearls. oh we are one great oxymoron and we love it. we think we break rules. live for the shock value.
above all, we are elitists.
and we sit back. we all sit back and watch. it's easier that way. i think i'll just keep doing it. i'll make satirical comments on the issues i don't have the energy to change. i'll be cynical and make fun of people who have their lives together way more than i do. i'll keep blabbing my mouth saying words i'm not so sure of and i'll k e e p w r i t i n g m y w o r d s l i k e t h i s. i'll sit back and watch it all like a movie. and let the plot thicken beneath me.
i'll just hide in my underground.
we are the generation that hides in our underground.
can we come up for air now?
