Friday night I went to the movies with all my visiting cousins and a couple of other friends. Half the group saw The Hulk and the rest of us saw The Happening. The Happening was interesting, and I like supporting M. Night Shyamalan. I like supporting desis, but I also think he’s really creative and will have another good movie eventually. The Sixth Sense is one of my all time favorite movies, but all of his other movies have been kinda blah in comparison. I did enjoy a lot of them, but just not as much as The Sixth Sense. I do not think he’ll ever have anything as good as that movie, but I think he’ll have something better that The Village. Ugh. I did like that movie, but I thought the ending was HORRIBLE.
After driving Ravi and Kavi home, we didn’t get home until 2am. Then I had to wake up early for Sanariya’s funeral. I’m really glad I went, but I didn’t get a chance to talk to Purva. I only got to talk to Kishore, but I was really glad I did. I really miss Purva and want to get back in touch with her. Gauri bahen was so hysterical, it was so hard to see. We did a lot of chanting which I was really glad about. Sometime this week or next we’re going to go over to their house. Hopefully Purva will be there then. The funeral was really good though.. It’s always weird to say that, but the aura was nice and clear. It was really nice to see Janak singing along with we were chanting the Maha Mantra also.
Saturday was a tired and lazy day for me. After not getting enough sleep I didn’t have a whole lot of energy. I brought Vascar over to my grandmother’s house and we stayed there for most of the afternoon/evening. My grandmother’s house is a duplex and everybody that lives there is related to me. On the first floor, my mom’s half sister lives there with her son. Auntie Lilia. She has had cancer twice now, and she recently had one of her breasts cut off. She just finished her last treatment of chemo, and her son is basically a deadbeat. So while I was there I took her out to get some food at Ali’s Roti Shop (guck!) and grocery shopping. I was glad to help. It’s moments like these that make me happy to have a license and a car. The only thing I can’t stand about Lilia is when she starts getting all Christian on me. She can believe in whatever she wants to believe in, I will not disrespect it or her. I don’t even mind when she talks about “her god” to or around me. Learning more about other religions is interesting to me. But I cannot deal with her “I will pray for you Vidya. I hope you find God.” type shit. It is obvious that she and I cannot convert each other.. we are both strong in our beliefs and views; therefore I don’t really bother talking to her about religion and spirituality much. (Not that I normally try to covert people.) I usually let her talk. But come on, crazy lady.. Don’t tell me you’re going to pray for me to find god. It’s just obnoxious. But it’s also kinda entertaining and funny after the fact. Anyway.
One fun thing about Saturday was looking at old pictures that my grandmother had. Pictures from Trinidad trips, from family visiting America, and pictures of relatives I didn’t know. Tons of other random pictures as well. That’s always fun.
Sunday was another lazy day. Before going to the temple we dropped Vascar off at my grandmothers. We came out of the car for a bit for Gopal to see my grandmother. He saw Lilia with her bald head was a bit freaked out by it. But my brother never brings him over to see my grandmother because he’s a loser so I was glad we stayed for a while. Also glad that he saw Lilia for a while too. I don’t know how much longer either one of them will be around. Hanging out with my grandmother made me want to visit her more often. I don’t want to regret not spending more time with her when she’s gone. I didn’t get to think like this with my dad’s mom. She left when I was only 11.
Temple was good. Japa was good this weekend too. Suraj worked in the morning so he didn’t come to the temple. So Gopal stayed with us for another night. When we got home from the temple we watched this documentary on a littler girl in India born with 8 limbs. Her parents named her Laxmi and are convinced that she is the goddess Laxmi. She was a case of parasitic twins. Gotta love the National Geographic channel.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lakshmi_Tatma I’m tired as hell today, but I’m looking forward to going out to dinner tonight with Rachael and Eric. It’s our birthday celebration for Eroc. We’ll have tons o’ fun. I’m hungry for lunch now though! I think I had more to say, but I always forget things when I’m writing and working at the same time.
Peace out.
