Wikipedia Just a quick rundown of Kanon's past and role in the manga (the Wikipedia entry is kind of sparse): Kanon was bullied for her looks prior to the beginning of the manga. In particular it was a set of girls at her school who took things far too far (telling people it was okay to rape Kanon because she was so ugly, making her steal things for them, ect). This left a painful "hole" in Kanon's heart. When the beings from another world came to Earth seeking to die, Kanon was one of those infected. Instead of committing suicide like many of those who received the beings though, she gained superhuman abilities including increased healing and the power to explode metal by pointing at it.
Katsumata recruited her for his purposes and for some time she worked with him and Ken Morio to prepare for the coming of Akuro and the supposed "revolution" of the world. Yura was also brought onboard and later Hirose who brought the kidnapped Megumi with him. During this time Kanon killed the younger brother of Nami right before the girl, starting a grudge by Nami that would cause her to seek Kanon out across the country. Kanon continued to work for Katsumata, oblivious to the revenge seeking Nami's existence.
When she finally rendezvoused with Katsumata and the others at a mansion in the country, Okada had been brought on board and the two immediately hit it off poorly. Kanon's reaction to Megumi was also poor as she became jealous of the others' kind treatment of her. Hurt by the less than stellar welcome she received from her allies, she was uncertain what to do, sulking until Katsumata advised her that she should do whatever she wanted even if she might die doing it.
Encouraged by his words she released the kidnapped Megumi and took her away from the mansion planning to kill her. Megumi escaped, but was brought back the next day by Hirose. No punishment fell on Kanon, but Hirose was stranger than usual after that, a seemingly empty person. The group moved to Hokkaido and from there sought out the Heart of Akuro in a nearby set of lakes.
Only Katsumata knew what would happen when the Heart was retrieved. Kanon was ordered to guard the road passing close to the lake where the Heart rested. When Taisuke and his friends, including Nami, arrived looking for the Heart, Kanon stood in their way. Nami stayed behind to fight her while the others went on to the lake to fight Katsumata. Kanon managed to hold her own and in fact had the upper hand until Nami ran into the forest. Unthinkingly following, Kanon was cut off from the metal that her power needed to work.
Nami took advantage and nearly killed her. Only the interruption of Yura at the last moment saved Kanon. But when she thanked him he snapped at her calling her weak. Unable to take such an insult, and spurred on by the power of the Heart which drove all the comrades surrounding it to fight, she ran to the lake with the intent of taking the Heart for herself. Whoever possessed it would supposedly possess an ability on par with 'god'. Hirose had pulled the Heart up from the depths of the lake and was about to claim it for his own when Kanon burst onto the scene. Running out into the lake she grabbed the Heart for herself and prepared to merge its power with herself.
Personality: Kanon is an extremely childish girl. Selfish, the majority of her feelings towards others are shallow. She holds a deeper regard for her fellow allies, Yura and Morio and to a lesser extent Hirose, but in general she thinks little of others, killing them for amusement and the slightest offenses. She enjoys being the center of attention and takes others negativity towards herself badly. Seeing herself as generally good she doesn't view the many crimes she commits as "wrong". Not that she's ignorant of the law, but in a way she sees them as not applying to herself. She is herself after all (a cute girl who should be given excessive leeway) as well as a comrade; normal human laws just don't apply. Only Katsumata's will.
She has a tendency to do whatever she pleases with little to no discussion with others. She can put up with not getting her way, but she never likes it. One of her few redeeming qualities though is that she doesn't hold well with grudges. While her temper can be quick and impossibly petty, once her anger has passed it's not likely to come back. For that particular instance at least; people who annoy her once are very likely to annoy her again in the future. Still she's a friendly enough girl when one of her many annoyance lines aren't being crossed ( though something as little as the car in front of her driving the speed limit can annoy her unfortunately). She even forgives those who do cross her readily enough; if they're alive afterwards anyways as she has a very short trigger when it comes to her power as a comrade.
Very outgoing, she does her best to be cute, speaking in third person much of the time and adding -chan onto the end of her acquaintances names'. She laughs a lot and has a fondness for speaking with a sing-song lilt. Taking care to keep herself presentably "cute", she has a wealth of confidence to match her looks. Due to the way she speaks and the fact she is more likely to talk about clothes than a murder happening right in front of her though, she can come across as incredibly vapid and stupid.
In some ways the "cute" act is a second personality for her though. It's important to her that she be cute to match her looks and become her ideal of a "cute girl". But around people she's comfortable with (namely her fellow allies Yura and Ken) she's shown a calmer, cynical side. This side tends to only show itself in quiet moments, but when it's present all her vapidness drops away and it's apparent she does have a fair amount of intelligence. Still she uses all of that intelligence to match up to her ideal and by this point in her life her second personality has become the more dominant of the two.
Still she can recognize when opportunities are life-threatening risks and people are deceitful; she just very seldom mentions her more intelligent observations to others. Nor does she always act on them, tending to be impulsive, especially when caught up in her emotions. Of course it doesn't help that her emotions can change so quickly, from angry to amused to bullying to self-pitying in the space of a few minutes. More than anything else that lends a sense of being empty-headed to Kanon is the impermanence of her feelings, a person's standing with her easily changing in the space of a few seconds all depending upon Kanon's endless mood shifts. Really though at the end of the day, despite her murderous tendencies and lack of care for others, she just wants to be a cute girl that others regard with fondness and maybe go shopping.
What your character can offer: Kanon has the ability to make anything with the natural frequency of metal explode (as canon puts it). So basically she can make metal explode. She cannot make metal explode when certain things are between it and her though (the only canonically shown blocker is human flesh while her power does pass through brick, but I assume rubber and other non-conductor sorts of things work for this). Being a comrade she also has an exceptional physical fortitude. A punch in the face, a fall from four stories, a stab in the torso; she can take it and keep on fighting. It helps that her wounds also heal at an incredible rate. While they don't heal instantaneously, she can heal several months worth of damage in three days to a week depending on the extent. She can also sense other comrades and feel the beat of the Heart. Aside from her abilities as a comrade, Kanon doesn't have much besides a selfish personality and the will to do whatever she pleases regardless of the possible severeness of the consequences.
What items will they be bringing with them? Nothing, but the wet clothes on her back.
Third-Person Sample: She couldn't stand it! Everyone being so mean to her! Hirose, Ken-chan, even Yura! It was all because of that girl. She just knew it! They were treating Megu-chan like a princess. She wasn't even a comrade! Girls like that should just die! Or so she told herself.
It hurt to be treated like the bad guy. Kanon didn't have many friends. Their disapproval stung in a way she didn't like. What had she done that was so wrong? Why were they angry with her? It hadn't been like this before. It had to be that girl's fault; she was the only difference in the situation, she had to be the cause of the change.
But Megu-chan was also important to Hirose. His most important thing. Kanon and Hirose had never been close. Not like her and Ken-chan or even Yura. But he was still an ally and seeing him dote so on someone else while giving her bland looks and cold words was all, but a physical slap. She couldn't stand it and Katsumata-san's words rolled around in her head, again and again.
To do as she liked... Even if it was inviting death? Was that how it should be? Kanon didn't want to die. But a part of her also believed she would never die. She was going to help retrieve the Heart of Akuro. She was going to be part of the revolution of power users. And ever since she'd acquired her own power, she'd felt a sense of invincibility that was hard to disregard no matter how weak she knew she truly was. This power gave her the ability to defend herself against the cruelties of the world.
And wasn't this situation cruel? For friends to treat a girl, no not a girl, a beautiful girl, in such a way. It was inhumane. It brought back bad memories. It pissed her off. She wasn't the Kanon of a year or even five months ago. Now she had the ability. The ability to protect herself. She was no longer the weak that had to give way before the strong, the prettier, the larger numbers.
Even if something was inviting of death... She'd do as she liked. It wasn't as if she'd ever die anyways. She was an important person, a cute girl on the side of Katsumata-san. Besides Megu-chan was an ordinary girl. As long as Kanon didn't tell Hirose what happened herself no one would ever have to know she was involved. Standing up she flipped her hair back and headed for the stairs that led to the second floor and Megumi's room.
First-Person Sample: Hey Ken-chan~♫! Kanon is bored! Come pick her up? It's really dirty around here, Kanon thought it'd be cleaner. And the people are rude! How can they be so mean to Kanon? But don't worry she taught them a lesson hyaha!
My clothes smell like smoke. They still haven't put the fires out. Take Kanon to a perfume shop!
[The wail of sirens can be heard in the background and there's the sound of an explosion followed by a collective scream from many people. Kanon's voice reflects no particular feeling for any of this.]
Oh. The fire hit the gas tank. Kanon didn't do a very good job destroying that one. Her mistake. So how long will it take you to get here Ken-chan? Don't keep Kanon waiting, 'k!
