No, it's not a crappy ending (well, except for the bit about Wes). Survival's not an issue for them, it's the battle that matters.

It's where she really ceases to be a plot device and actually eases into her place in the group... it's a pity she got so few episodes.

It was an awesome ending! Wes dying was totally lame but it was good that Joss isn't afraid to kill off loved characters. Personally I think Wesley should have done a suicide, like with a grenade or something... I mean he totally kicked butt against the Magma Beast, dual pistols, shotgun, grenades... Now THAT'S a Rogue Demon Hunter!
