Nathan's asleep (finally) so i thought i'd update everyone on what transpired over the weekend.
March 4, 2006 SATURDAY- due date! no contractions, no signs of any sort that i am about to give birth. though i'd go a week or two overdue because for the whole duration of my pregnancy, i never had contractions, or none that i felt, not even braxton hicks. it was frustrating. there's nothing worse than having the sun rise and set on your due date and no babies!
March 5, 2006 SUNDAY- woke up at around 6:30 AM because i was finally feeling the contractions come in. i got up and started timing them and i would get like 12 contractions per hour, each one lasting 30-60 seconds with an interval of 5-7 minutes each. they never went away, and mom said that could be it - i might go into labor that night. i was doubtful because i thought it might be just then that i am having the braxton hicks or false alarm labor.
By around 1:30 PM we decided to go the hospital to my have my contractions checked because they were getting more and more painful. When we got there, a nurse checked me and told me i might be sent home because my waters haven't broken yet and my contractions don't look painful at all, because i can still talk and carry on a conversation. And then the doctor came in and checked on me and told me i am going to be admitted because i am already 5 cms dialated.
We were transferred to a birthing room and Dad, who was a bundle of nerves the whole time, decided to leave. It was so funny because he was such in a state of panic that he ended up carrying my pregnancy book with him instead of the stocks and trades book he carried with him. He was the cutest.
By around 4:30 PM, i was already 7 cms dialated and the pain was unbearable. I asked for an epidural but they said i have to be at least 9 cms to get an epidural so i had to wait. But they did give me something to relax me. And i was like, "will this make the contractions go away?" Syempre hindi. DUH. The drug kind of helped, but the pain was still there so i still wanted the epidural.
What's ironic about the whole situation is the fact that i was being such a baby. I would call mom everytime the contractions came in and ask her to hold my hand. Imagine a pregnant woman screaming "MOOOOOOMMMMM!!!" nakakahiya no haha but i didn't care. At one point, i asked mom, "Ma? Pano mo nakaya ang tatlong anak?" Hahaha. It was really painful, i tell you.
Around 5:30 PM, they checked on me again. I was bracing myself for the epidural because i figured with the intensity of the contractions i would have to be at least 9 cms dialated already! Nothing prepared me for what the doctor said next. One word lang... PUSH! I was like, "wha- ?!" but i did push. And then it was chaos. The doctor screaming at me telling me to wait for her to get dressed, the nurses scurrying around, mom screaming "gra andyan na yung ulo!"
I was in labor. They made me push for 10 seconds, deep breath (isa lang!) and then push ulit. it was quite an experience. after around six pushes, i was officially a mommy.

Nathan Bordeos Lachica
8.5 lbs
21 inches
he was healthy and pink and just perfect!
I was lucky everything went well. It could have been a c-section, the labor could have gone for days, there could have been complications, but there was none. Thank you for including us in your prayers. And for being there. For sharing this experience with me. Nathan is lucky to have you guys :)
Did i mention walang epidural? No anesthesia of any kind?
I felt everything... the contractions, him coming out, the stitches...
Ibang klase. A day of pain for a lifetime of happiness :)
