I wish there was a way to shorten the words "fan art" (as with flist). Sadly, the words in question are ill suited to that particular method. :/ I know they're just three letters each, but I'm lazy.
I guess I should just read the book -- I have had it for ages, but I am good at procrastination. ;)
That said, I like those sketches -- love the simplicity of the character designs. I'm intrigued by the pen drawing ( love the cross-hatching); what is going on there? Don't tell if it would spoil the book. ;p
You should totally read it, I really think you'd love it. And if it seems a bit slow, bear with it, it's leading somewhere. :)
And oh, Polly, I know you don't like it so much but I just fucking ADORE your Jonathan. He makes me want to pet him, which I want to the book Jonathan as well. And Norrell! And, and, how fucking creepy did you make ballpoint pens? That's awesome. Total love, dude.
Here from kingofravens, and I have NO WORDS for how lovely your fanart is. Why does it seem that all JSMN fans are so artistically talented?? XD I love your Jonathan; he seems so lifelike, as if he's about to speak. Also fond of the shadows on Mr. Norrell's face, and the ink drawing...! Though I like the softer book illustrations as well, your spidery inking just seems so much more appropriate.... Can't wait to see more art from you.
Thank you! I’m enjoying going back and looking at old community posts - there’s some amazing stuff at kingofravens, and it's so cool to see the different interpretations.
Here via kingofravens. Wow. These illustrations are absolutely gorgeous. I particularly love Jonathan Strange's look of curiosity. Very true to the character. Though they are all wonderful.
These are lovely! I'm so glad to see fanart being generated for this book... I was afraid kingofravens had lapsed into permanent inertia.
Your particular style is ideal for these scenes & portraits.
It's been so long since I read the book; I wish I could remember which bit features that rather Baba Yaga-ish chicken-legged hut. I love the effect of the crosshatching in that one, though.
Please keep drawing--it's always a treat to see JS&MrN art.
Thank you! I was afraid I’d discovered the book two years too late, so it’s great to get feedback. I’d totally blanked out on Baba Yaga, but that’s really what that scene invokes, isn’t it? No wonder it's so creepy.
