Now I work in an office on the tippy-top floor of Boston's most prestigious restaurant.
I have an official title.
I might have to print business cards.
I wear suits and pumps and say things like, "I usually don't get into the office until around nine, but I can absolutely set a meeting with you for eight o'clock."
I have one of those green-and-gold office lamps, and a giant calendar with scribbles all over it.
I am Locke-Ober's Private Event Coordinator, who walks from her Back Bay apartment every morning to sit down and schedule your fabulous parties. I also do most of the managerial paperwork for every shift. I'm training myself. Six years from now, when we can afford to do it, Mike and I will be ready to open our restaurant. I know everything about the front of the house; now I'm learning about behind the scenes.
Mike and I have never been better, by the way.
I'm a grownup now. I never thought I'd like being a grownup but I do.
And now if you'll excuse me, I have to go finish collating contracts with their respective receipts so that I can get out of here and grab a fruit cup and a coffee for lunch.
No, no. Seriously.
