Anti-OTP!

Feb 10, 2006 19:17

Typist: To make this less of a mess, this post shall be for all Olivia's anti-OTP's. (Except for the Illyrian anti-OTPlay4.) So, Horatio, Orsino, Sebastian, Helena, Roxane, and Cyrano, have at 'er!

*lounges around in the garden, probably thinking about her rather insane love life, because really, what else does she think about?*

[*fairly late, as the typist has become unexpectedly busy*] *Cyrano chances upon her entirely on accident, carrying a quill, capped inkwell, and folio. There is a brief moment where he considers turning back to write to private, but he changes his mind (he needs the break, he thinks).*

*a tad softly, perhaps apologetically, as he wonders if he is intruding* Good afternoon, madame.

Typist: sorry this is so late, some stuff came up; I won't be able to reply until much later tonight, but I'll be online on Sunday. I just wanted to get the thread started.

*smiles* The same to you, sir. *looks at him - and then suddenly looks away because ack, nose!*

Typist: That's fine! :)

*he frowns in annoyance; he knows those sorts of looks all too well -- the quick, embarrassed glances that are meant to be undetectable but linger just an instant longer than is decent* Or perhaps it is not quite as good as I had so rashly predicted. *vague smile* I was hoping to be optimistic today.

*bites her lip* Forgive me, sir, I meant no offense. You may continue in your optimism, an it please you - I hope it will.

*looks as though he means to express his annoyance further, but relents* Do not apologize, I've come to expect furtive glances towards my nose upon first introduction, otherwise it becomes all too clear that one is denying its existence as one would ignore unwelcome company. *a slight bow before setting his things down* I am Cyrano; I hope I am not intruding upon your privacy, but I was looking for some place quiet and not likely to cause one to spontaneously change genders/species/personalities.

*stands and curtsies* Well met, lord Cyrano, I am Olivia. You do not intrude - if 'tis quiet you seek, mayhap we may be quiet together.

*gestures for her to sit again, and sits as well* Your company will be welcome, then; it's rather lonely until my muse (forgive the cliché) decides it fit to inspire me once more. I fear she might be angry with me for having called on her one too many times without giving her a chance to rest.

*sits* You speak of a muse, are you a poet?

*nods* I am -- or, at the very least, I would be so inclined as to consider myself as much. *dryly* My work is not particularly popular, however.

*laughs* The best poets are often disdained so, I find.

*a crooked and almost charming smile* They're often the ones with most personality, in any case. There is more character in their work than the work of those worried about the opinions of others.

But tell me, if I may be so bold as to ask (and as foolish as to break the silence that I had formerly sought), why I find you out here as well?

*smiles back* Ay, and I find that in disregarding the opinions of others is happiness often found.

I come here for solitude and contemplation, on occasion. And for company, on other occasions.

Or if not happiness, then at least there is the. . . satisfaction of being self-sufficient. Perhaps it is not the most romantic existence, but it's certainly the most fulfilling. Freedom to do as one pleases is a precious quality often for granted -- those who relinquish this for fame or fortune are fools. *pauses to keep himself from babbling further*

I should hope you find my company agreeable, then, seeing as how I must have interrupted your contemplation.

I have rarely felt such freedom, bound as I have been by family and the necessities of running an estate. But when I have tasted it... there is nothing so sweet.

I do, sir. You and your muse are most welcome here.

It is a pleasant feeling, something like a cool breeze on a warm day -- fleeting but gratifying all the same. It is sweet, ambrosial even, perhaps even better than love itself.

Is it? 'Twas love I spoke of when I did speak of freedom.
