Alright, so, you know me. I don’t understand this show, haven’t seen it, and I keep thinking this Pete is the Pete from Smallville. Happy times, I say. :P First off, it’s really good to see you writing again. For a fandom I don’t know, you always manage to make me feel like I know these characters like the shows I sort-of-adore-but-kind-of-hate-at-times, and, with this, you bring forth sadness for Pete. I don’t know him, yet I feel like I do, and I feel sort of strongly towards Sam and Jack - and I’m taking sides here!
It's like a dull paper cut over and over every time he sees her laugh at something the other man says, and it's even deeper when he sees the look in Jack's eyes.
I like this line, and it definitely shows how Pete’s not an oblivious add-on to the whole Jack and Sam equation.
The whole ‘Pete’ vignette really shows how he just knows that he’s going to sort of lose her eventually, and I like how it ties up in the end, even though it’s not written that he knew he was going to come out empty-handed. There’s a vibe, and I just felt so completely sad for him that I was routing for him to win her in the end.
He can't bring himself to believe in the power of his rock on her finger when he sees that same hand wound between the fingers of her commanding officer.
This is fantastic. It definitely shows the threesome, and just the image of Jack and Sam’s hands intertwined with Pete’s ring is absolutely beautiful imagery that explains this equation so well. I just absolutely love that line and what it brings forth.
Jack’s part definitely shows that he’s the right match for Sam. You’ve mentioned, out-right, that he understands her more than Pete ever will, and that he just knows her. I really like how he doesn’t try to ruin it for her, too. He just sits on the sidelines and all he can do is hope and wish and I’m glad he’s not an active participant in the relationship where he tries to sabotage it and make it absolutely awkward for them - he just does minute things, such as holding her hand. You’ve also introduced another factor to this; he notices things Pete doesn’t, such as the embarrassed smile about the mention of the Gate and how Pete just doesn’t see it. I really like how he sees what Pete misses, because it’s not another repeat of what Pete said. They seem like two completely different men, and you’ve captured that quite well.
So a dying father makes Sam realise that she’s chosen the wrong happy ending? Classic. :) I love the ending and how you tied the challenge in with Sam. You mentioned movies, and I like how that ties smoothly in with Pete’s quote. I feel so sad for Pete; he’s losing her and she’s finally seeing the truth.
You did an amazing job with the challenge and the bonus bit of threesomes. This was fantastic and sad and I’m sympathising more with Pete than being happy for Jack and Sam. I really do hope to see more from you in the future. I miss your writing, love. :) :3
