Dinah had no idea how long she'd been staring into her coffee cup, but it was long enough for the contents to go cold, and she nearly spit it out when she took a sip. Cold coffee was just so gross. Dick had left her sitting at the kitchen table trying to work through everything he'd told her, but it wasn't getting any more clear, no matter how ( Read more... )

Jill rubbed a hand over her face, pausing before she knocked on the door of the Exile's treehouse politely before she opened the door. It was just perfunctory, and there was small (mostly because it was forced) smile on her face.

"Hullo," she said, nodding once. "I'm Jill." She knew that the woman had just shown up (another one, of all things), and it was the least Jill could do to be civil.

"Hi, Jill. I'm Dinah. Pleasure to meet you." Even completely worn out, Dinah had no problem taking in all the details about this girl. Particularly the discomfort that was practically coming off of her in waves. She couldn't imagine why this Jill person would be so wary of her, unless they had some kind of past together that Dinah wasn't aware of. But Dick hadn't said anything about her having enemies here. So, what the hell? "Sorry, but have we met before?"

"You and I? Oh, goodness, no. I'm- I'm not from... I'm from Narnia." She inhaled. "Jill Pole, you see." She didn't know if the other woman would have read them, but either way it was still an explanation.

"I met Robin when I came here."

"Narnia? Like from the books? Wow, that's...that's pretty wild." Dick had told her about Jill and how there were tons of fictional people on the island, but it was still pretty weird to meet one face-to-face. Leaning back comforably in her chair, Dinah tried to get passed the bizarro factor and work out why Jill was to tense. Figuring it was probably best to just address it head on, she said "If I promise not to bite, will you promise to try and relax a bit?" Dinah gave the girl a sly half-smile. "I'm actually very nice. Most of the time."

"So am I," Jill said, a furrow appearing between her brows. "I just... do you need anything? I mean, can I show you anything. Since you're new."

She was stumbling over her own words, not really sure how she should take this whole thing. This whole entire thing. That she knew Dick - did she know Tim? She wasn't a Titan, or else she'd be making her home in their Treehouse, so she was probably another adult comic refugee.

"And yes, like the books. The Silver Chair and The Last Battle, actually." It amazed her, a little, that she could say those two titles with a straight face.

"It's been quite a while since I read those, sorry to say." Dinah tried her best to try and remember the plots, but it was no use. She made a mental note to ask Dick for some more details later.

"Oh, and thanks for the offer but I am ridiculously tired," she said with a very timely yawn. "How about you just come sit down and talk to me. I'd offer you something to drink but, ya know. Not my house."

"It will be, though." She shrugged, and sat on the couch. "It's... okay. I'd actually rather you hadn't read them, anyhow." She paused. "So you... know Dick?"

Common ground. At least it was somewhere to start.

Now that was interesting. Dinah wonders what could have happened in those volumes that Jill wouldn't want her to know about. Now she knew she definitely had to get her hands on them, or at least talk to someone who remembered. It would certainly help her to understand what this young woman was all about.

"Yeah, Dick and I go back. I don't think we're from the same universe or timeline or whatever, but close enough. We still know each other." She smiles and leans a bit closer to Jill, hoping the girl can understand the import of what she's saying. "I still trust him with my life."

"I feel that way about Tim," she said with a nod, even though her brow furrowed.

Even though I probably shouldn't. She swallowed, and licked her lips before continuing. "It's good that he found you, then."

Dick told her that Jill and Tim were close, but she's sensing there is a bit more to it than that. Call it woman's intuition, call it experience, but Dinah has a sinking feeling that Jill is smitten and that has the potential for disaster.

"You're telling me," she says with a smile. "I was in the middle of a high-speed chase and the next thing I know I'm falling into the ocean. I wasn't exactly in the friendliest mood. If Dick hadn't been the one to find me, there'd probably be some innocent bystander getting patched up by a doctor right now."

Her brows rose. ".... You'd lash out at someone helping you?" Sure, it was a little more clinical then it should have been, but it wasn't like Jill didn't have her reasons.

"Who were you chasing?"

"No one you'd know," she replies, answering the second question first. "Just a couple of League members who'd made a stupid decision." Dinah's doesn't think it's really worth getting into the whole sordid mess now that she's here. Not like she can do anything about Huntress and her vendetta now.

"As for lashing out...well, that's the thing. I wasn't expecting help, I was expecting attack. So, I would have hit first and asked questions later." Dinah smiles a bit ruefully remembering what had happened. "I almost did. Dick's lucky I recognized him as quickly as I did."
