Why wasn't I told that as a kid? Well, the nice people at the Mickey's Not So Scary Halloween Party made up for that by giving adults candy bags too. But let's do this right.
Friday September 19th
The day started up great. Emily woke up thinking she was in Georgia near Brunswick. After a quick breakfast we left for the big "Disney Store" in the nearby open air mall. We asked Emily if she would close her eyes at surprise spoiling points with the excuse that we were passing a sign about something we were thinking of doing with her and it was a surprise. After driving into the Downtown Disney parking lot we allowed her to open her eyes. She looked around still not realizing where she was. At first all she saw was a tourist trap open air mall. Then we saw the big Disney Store. Or as it is called at every Disney park The World of Disney. Emily immediately recognized it as such and stated tentatively, "We're at Disney World." Then she jumped around for a bit then we gave her her birthday cards. The first which stated that for her birthday we give her the world of fun-ness. All of the rest contained Disney Dollars for her to spend. Which she did with gusto. For about twenty minutes after that Emily was still incredulous. She could not fathom that she was truly in Walt Disney World. We then informed her that the Halloween Party we were going to was in fact Mickey's Not So Scary Halloween Party.
Then we were off to the PotC themed Caribbean Beach Resort to check in and fix our Halloween ticket situation. We didn't have them. We'd already bought them, but they had never arrived. No biggie. After checking in we asked about getting new tickets cut at the concierge but they had to be cut at the park. No biggie we had time to waste before the party. So after getting our parking permit and room keys even though our room wasn't quite ready (and wasn't when they said it was later on). So we drove to the ticketing and transportation center and hopped on the monorail to the Magic Kingdom. After a quick bag check at security we went to Will Call and had new tickets cut. Tada! With still plenty of time we drove back to the hotel. After acquiring our room number we go there. We changed because after seeing the kick ass pool we needed to use it. Quick change after our dip the pool. Emily in her High School Musical cheerleader costume and I in my Gryffindor uniform sans robes and sweater tied at my waist, both of us in pigtails.
While eating a quick dinner at the Polynesian Resort who did we see? Why it was Emily's best friend Emily and her family! What a surprise. The girls hugged and danced in circles. Each astounded that the other was there. Amazingly they ate something before our late night into the Magic Kingdom. Thankfully I was not the only parent dressed up. Amy was dressed up as a vampire chick.
Ah what fun we had. Everyone was given a purple wrist band upon entering the park. This was to identify that we had tickets to Mickey's Not So Scary Halloween Party as opposed to the losers who were trying to stay inside the park anyway. So we looked at our map to note where candy spots were so we can wrack up candy while heading to attractions. First and foremost we headed straight to the Haunted Mansion. I know we rode Space Mountain, Thunder Mountain twice, the Tea Cups, It's a Small World, Peter Pan, PotC (the line wait said 0 minutes so really we were already on the ride when we walked up), Buzz Lightyear Space Ranger Spin. And probably a couple of rides I can't remember. No line had more than a ten minute wait. All the while we consumed handful after handful of candy. The sugar buzz helped keep us moving. We watched the parade which had a bitchin' intro. Without warning the Headless Horseman came tearing through before the parade started. Best. Parade. Intro. Ever. After that it was mostly standard Disney parade fare until it got to the Haunted Mansion Float. There were dancing grave diggers. And their routine was wicked awesome. Every couple of steps they would circle their shovels on the ground creating sparks.
However the most impressive thing was the fireworks. Once again since the park was fairly empty since most people didn't buy the tickets for the event, we were able to get great seats for the fireworks display, close to the statues of Mickey and Walt in front of the castle. And it did not disappoint. The first song played was of course, "This is Halloween." Splashed on the castle were projected images from TNBC and Disney Villains. At the finale we were surrounded in pyrotechnics. This was way beyond what we had seen at Christmas.
And last but not least the Villain show. It started with a blaze of blinding green flames and Maleficent. She started singing something and sashaying around the stage. Then enter the Maleficent bondage dance team. Vampire chicks in black/red satin lined capes clad in fishnets and booty shorts. And yes, they were wearing hooker boots. Fantabulous. Guys in mesh shirts and S&M pants writhed about with the vamp girls. After a bit of grinding around Maleficent and on poles, the bondage dance team took a step back for the other villains to arrive. The Wicked Queen, The Queen of Hearts, Cap'n Hook, and Cruella De Vil. Then another dance number.
After that we left exhausted knowing that tomorrow would be a very long and involved day.
