I only blame one organization for the Sens loosing the Stanley Cup final.... Champions on Ice! In Canada we postpone concerts for hockey while in California, they let Sasha Cohen spiral her way around the Honda center while the Sens sit and wait 10 days to begin their series in Anaheim. Clearly hockey isn't a priority in California and even though the Ducks played a great series, I don't think the cup belongs in California. It belongs in Canada where we take pride and sign both National Anthems loud and clear! Where we pack City Hall, Elgin Street, Scotia Bank place (inside and out) and the Market to show our support for the team we love. And even though they've disappointed us in the past, this time I can guarantee no one will be blaming Alfie and screaming trade at any of the players. Those guys played their hearts out and Bryan Murray should be proud of the way his team played. I also don't believe Scott Niedermayer deserved to win the Conn Smythe trophy because the Ducks could have won the cup without him; however, the Sens wouldn't have gotten as far as they would have without Daniel Alfredsson. He's the heart and soul of the team. No one worked harder at proving not only to the media when they wanted to rip the C off his jersey but himself as well that he was a leader.
Lessons will be learned and hopefully next year, a skating show won't be in the way of the Sens bringing home the cup. Afterall ten days is a long time to wait and they did loose a bit of their energy that kept them going in beating other teams in 5 games. I have faith that next year, they'll be ready to go and will play another amazing year!
And now my birthday plans keep changing. With no game to watch we'll probably head to the market later on instead since people won't be celebrating anything this weekend. Heck I don't even want to celebrate turning 25! I'm half way to 50!
Love Always
