according to dr. schillinger, the numbness in my toe and shin is normal, and so long as i keep doing what i'm doing, it should fade. it's only been a week since it started, i should be patient, etc. etc. it's just worrisome when parts of your body stop feeling things.

i start my supplement regime today. here's what we're looking at:

CLA -- 1 capsule am, 1 capsule pm, without food
bromelain -- 2 capsules am, 2 capsules pm, without food (if needed)

omega 3 -- 1 capsule am, 1 capsule pm, with food
borage oil -- 1 capsule am, 1 capsule pm, with food
magnesium -- 2 capsules am, 1 capsule pm, with food

vit. e alpha -- 1 capsule am, with food
vit. e gamma -- 1 capsule am, with food
vit. b complex -- 1 capsule am, with food

CLA: conjugated lineoleic acid, a natural enzyme product that works with adipose (fat storage) cells to reduce inflammatory chemical secretion.
Bromelain: natural enzyme derived from pineapples and papayas, on a full stomach aids in protein (and other) digestion, on an empty stomach is a natural anti-inflammatory.
Omega 3: fish oil, good for eyesight, joint stability, and anti-inflammation.
Borage Oil: a natural source of Omega-6 oils, works with Omega 3 to digest properly.
Magnesium: a vital mineral that almost every american is deficient in, magnesium is a co-factor for hundreds of enzymes in the body and is as important as calcium for a healthy body; particularly helpful in muscle tension regulation.
Vitamin E Alpha/Gamma: these primarily work to prevent free radicals from damaging healthy cells, and support other anti-inflammatory supplements.
Vitamin B Complex: B-1 aids in carbohydrate digestion; B-2 aids in energy metabolism; B-3 aids in cholesterol metabolism; B-5 aids protein metabolism, wound healing and cellular energy production (krebs cycle); B-6 aids in neuro-chemical production and transmission (dopamine, serotonin, etc.); B-12 aids in nerve/brain tissue regeneration and ocular health.

it seems overwhelming, until you sit back and think about the sort of foods we'd be eating without processed foods. everything on this list occurs in nature and, in the past, was often introduced into the body via foods like unprocessed meats and cheeses, fresh fruit, dark green vegetables, and fish. nowadays it's hard to eat like that; also, it's expensive to eat like that. organic meat and fish is nearly double the cost of regular meat/fish and raw spinach isn't exactly the most filling lunch on-the-go (i can attest to this personally). then you factor in people like me, who love to cook and love bread and love sugar, and it's really hard to pack it all in. i work hard to watch what i eat but i can't afford to stock my kitchen with half the farmer's market, and a 2 month supply of Omega 3 capsules costs about as much as 2 fresh salmon fillets. we eat salmon here at home too, but still... not every day. it's just logical to supplement.

i'm just grateful all these vitamins and enzymes work with each other, instead of against each other.

in other news...

i have this strong urge to drive back up to vallejo and look at the house in the daylight. we drove up the other evening, but danny's uncle (who's also a real estate agent) called halfway up, so we spent an hour driving around mare island while i took notes on the basics every first time home buyer should know. not that we're ready to buy a house or anything! danny just likes entertaining the idea. (it's actually not as scary as you'd think, once you qualify for a loan, but that's the super hard part.) by the time we got to the house, it was dark, though the street was pretty well lit... it's in a pretty historic part of town - western vallejo, right by the water - and the houses are all turn of the century. the neighborhood is nice. the only way i'll entertain the thought of moving to vallejo, however, is if the rent + utilities + commuting expense is equal to or lesser than what we're paying now. i mean, it'd be nice to move back into a proper house, but we're just fine here and we certainly can't afford to pay any more in rent.

now i'm off to take my with-food supplements!

love kittie
