But there's a serious undercurrent here, about how out of control the current debate in popular music is getting about copyright controls. We've been talking endlessly about the major labels suing their own customers in an effort to stop what they call illegal downloading...this example, though, goes right over the top. Holden Lenz has been targeted as one of the major criminals currently responsible for the downfall of popular music as we know it. He's 18 months old. And he lives in rural Pennsylvania. His mom made a 29-second home video of baby Holden dancing to Prince's "Let's Go Crazy", which is barely audible in the background. And mom puts it up on Youtube, 'cause she wants to share it with the family. 28 people watch the video. This prompts a legal notice from Universal Music, Prince's label, threatening that they better get it off immediately, or all hell's gonna rain down on the Lenz family in rural Pennsylvania. [And] after the story broke, like 100,000 people watched the clip.
