its something i believe i will succeed at with the help of friends and family as well as people who just care.
i have battled with these problems since i was 19 starting with simple blood clot problems, then turning into more serious things... open heart surgery at 21, arterial bypass at 22, and 6 months later having my right limb amputated.... and in between all the surgeries, having massive Venous Insufficiency and Venous Ulcers on the lower parts of my legs, and being in extreme pain for months at a time.. these things are reoccuring and will never go away, clinicly they really dont know why i have PAD, and PVD, and DVT.
P.A.D. is Peripheral arterial disease,it is a problem with blood flow in the arteries. Arteries carry blood to the muscles and organs in your body. When you have diseased arteries, they become narrow or blocked. The most common cause of narrow or blocked arteries is the buildup of fatty deposits. This is called atherosclerosis. The most common complaint of people who have PAD is claudication.
Claudication is pain in the calf or thigh muscle that occurs after you have walked a certain distance, such as a block or two. The pain stops after you rest for a while. Each time the pain occurs, it takes about the same amount of time for the pain to go away after you stop walking.
Claudication occurs because not enough blood is flowing to a muscle. PAD can cause the artery that normally supplies blood to the muscle to get narrow so that less blood can flow through the artery. When you're resting, enough blood flows to the muscle to meet the needs of the muscle. However, when you walk, the working muscle needs more blood. The narrowed artery may not let enough through.
P.V.D. is peripheral vascular disease This refers to diseases of blood vessels outside the heart and brain. It's often a narrowing of vessels that carry blood to the legs, arms, stomach or kidneys.
Venous Insufficiency and Venous Ulcers
Venous insufficiency is a chronic condition in which the deep veins of the legs are not effectively returning blood to the heart. It can occur because the valves in the deep vein system are damaged (valvular incompetence) allowing blood to pool in the veins of the lower legs. This in turn creates leg edema and pressure on the skin, which causes skin damage.
Deep vein thrombosis (DVT) and thrombophlebitis are conditions that involve blood clot formation in the veins. In 90% of cases, these conditions occur in the leg; however, they also occasionally occur in the arms or, even more rarely, in other parts of the body.
Thrombophlebitis refers to blood clot (thrombus) formation occurring in the superficial veins (those closer to the skin surface). The condition is most often caused by irritation of the lining of the vein such as following phlebotomy or insertion of an intravenous line. While there is a risk of the blood clot traveling into the deep veins, serious complications due to superficial thrombophlebitis are extremely rare. If the blood clot becomes infected, it is called a septic thrombophlebitis. Patients with this condition develop fevers and redness of the skin over the blood clot.
DVT refers to a blood clot occurring in a deep vein within the muscle of the leg. DVT forms most commonly as a result of inactivity due to prolonged bed rest or movement restriction. Other potential contributing causes for DVT are pregnancy, obesity, severe infections, some types of cancers, recent major illness, surgery such as hip or knee replacement or hypercoagulable state (condition in which the blood is thicker than normal).
The most significant danger of DVT is that the blood clot will break loose and travel through the veins to the heart and vessels going to the lungs. This is called a pulmonary embolism, and while it is an infrequent complication of DVT, a pulmonary embolism can be fatal in 30-50% of people. DVT can result in permanent venous incompetence (damage to the valves in the veins). This produces post-thrombotic syndrome, which may cause varicose veins, edema, leg discomfort and skin ulceration.
okay sorry about that but i figured i would say what everything was.
when i refer to ulcers, if you want to see the pain levels that i go through to a google search and search images and type in vascular ulcers then youll have the idea..
