I managed to secure a (permanent? semi-permanent?) lecturership after a year of being a postdoc. The year before that was as an adjunct, which tested my will to continue on in academia. There is something demoralizing about teaching courses for a department and not knowing any of your colleagues because you're a mere adjunct. It was made very clear to me that I was nothing to those departments, despite of course, their dependence on adjunct labor. Good thing my Marxism allowed me to persevere by virtue of understanding my material conditions.
I am home for the summer. The only negative of my current post is the distance from my family. Who would have thought that I would be the one to live far from family, alas, due to exigencies.
