presumptive. Well I have ventured to and returned from Seattle, where I attended the AP Annual Conference. I could not have asked for any nicer weather from such a notoriously overcast city: Blue skies and highs in the mid-70's.
Needless to say, I loved it and am now desiring to relocate in search of year-round sweater weather.
My favorite thing to see was the Experience Music Project that had a kick ass exhibit on Jimi Hendrix. You could also get into a sound booth and rock out on an instrument of your choice.
Seattle also appears to be the land of delicious cuisine. I had several amazing beers at a place called the Taphouse Grill which boasts 160 beers on tap.
Sadly, I did relatively little sight-seeing in a week's time, but I was at the conference for about 9 hours a day. But, the bounty of educational materials I came away with is nearly impressive enough to off-set the missed opportunity of Pirate-Clown Day at the Seattle Aquarium. Also, we didn't bother renting a car, so everything we did was within walking distance--you'd be amazed how much awesome stuff is within walking distance of downtown Seattle. I did find a couple neat stores, and a bitchin' record shop just down the street from the hotel. I would have liked to take in a concert while I was there as Barcelona and (gasp!) The Jesus and Mary Chain were playing while I was in town, but I get sleepy early because I'm an old lady and usually hit the sack by 9:30.
On the whole, I enjoyed Seattle far more than Las Vegas last year. This is due in no small part to the gorgeous, temperate climate. Vegas is like a one trick pony when compared with all the good restaurants, bars, attractions and the beautiful skyline of Seattle. The only bummer was my travel related injuries (I never seem to make it anywhere without some damage to my person.) I highly recommend it for anyone looking for a prime vacation destination--but not in winter when it rains...but you know, i'm thinking I would look good in galoshes.
