Apocrypha happens to be one of my favorite words, but I rarely get to use it. It refers generally to writings of questionable authenticity; more specifically (in its proper noun form) it is a collection of books from the Greek Septuigent and Latin Vulgate that didn't quite make the cut for the RC-sanctioned Bible.
But what does any of that have to do with Andrew Bird? Well, nothing, but as I explained earlier I really like the word.

The new album is really quite good--of a similar flavor to 2005's Andrew Bird & the Mysterious Production of Eggs, which if you know anything about my musical proclivities was one of those albums that I kept forcing on people ("Hey have you heard this record? No, you HAVE to listen to this record! Here I have it on my i-pod let's listen to it, RIGHT NOW!" It was an impulse beyond my control, as if I was an inescapable parody of myself.) Armchair Apocrypha doesn't knock me over with the same force. But I think as a whole, its just as compelling and lovely. I like the songs indivually a bit more, but as a whole peice of work it feels less consistent...which makes absolutely no sense.
If nothing else you should check it out for Bird's mad whistling skills. I never learned to whistle as a child so I think it's a skill on par with, say, having infallible social grace or being able to fly.

here you can have this. I gotta go write an economics test
