new boy in town

My last post back in May I shared that I had to put my baby, PJ, down. It took almost 6 months, but in November I found Leo. Leo is a Maine Coon. He was found as a kitten in one of the local hospitals' parking garages. I adopted him from his first mom, an 83 year old resident in our senior apartments. Leo was nearly as big as Minnie (yes, that is her name and is a perfect description. 100 lbs wringing wet! LOL).

In case you are not familiar with Maine Coons, they are known as the gentle giants. Leo is 2, weighs 17 lbs (altho the vet wants him down to 15) and when stretched out is a good 36" long and 8-10" at the shoulder. He is a big boy and will keep growing until he is 5. He has a lovely plume of a tail that he proudly carries curled over his back. By contrast, PJ, a pale calico american shorthair, was less than 10 lbs.

The funniest thing is when we visit my folks. He and my 82 yr old step-dad play with each other. I love hearing Dad laugh as Leo mock-attacks him from the stairwell. LOL!
