Trip report, day 4

Oct 17, 2008 10:35

Sunday morning I woke up at around 8am again. Grant had been up since the sun rose (actually sunrise wasn't too early, maybe just before 7). We started getting ready for pictures at 9am, after a little breakfast and some caffeine. I used hot rollers to curl Brenna's hair and a curling iron to put a little curl in Ada's hair. We got the kids dressed and managed to get out the door by about 10:20am. We were meeting my friend at 10:30am. She's been a friend since high school, and oddly we ended up moving to the same cities a couple times. She was going to Brooks Institute (one of the best photography schools in the US) while I was going to the University of California at Santa Barbara. Since they're both in Santa Barbara, we used to hang out from time to time. I also was in many photos she was doing for class assignments. lol Then when I moved to Tucson and went to the University of Arizona, she moved here for a few years also. One summer she stayed in my dorm room at U of A for a few days while she was looking for a place to live.

Anyway, we got to the park (where we had been the day before) right at about 10:30am, our meeting time. I got a call from my friend right as we got there. So, we met up and took some pictures of the kids. She's sent over a few of them already, and they look GREAT. She's working on a couple more and the group shots. Apparently she has some retouching to do. lol She does a lot of photo retouching in Photoshop now.

After the kids' pictures, we went out to lunch. Another friend of ours (whom I hadn't seen since shortly after high school) picked us up, and we went to the most wonderful fish and chips place down by the convention center. It's the kind of place where you can pick what kind of fish you want for your fish and chips. They even did fish and chips with salmon. We had a great time and talked for a couple hours, catching up on what was going on in everyone's lives. My friend E (the photographer) was planning on taking some photos of S (my other friend), specifically to show to a guy she's met at an online dating service. He'd seen her before, but that day she'd left her hair naturally curly, which he hadn't seen. We talked about going down to the water, but S didn't want to, as it was a Sunday, and it was likely to be mobbed. After stopping at Starbucks, we made our way back to Poway. When we reached my parent's house, as we pulled up my mom called. They'd taken the kids and gone down to the park (about 8 houses away from my parents' house). My cousin was there, too, as she brought her kids up to play and visit. We went down to the park and chatted some more. Dh joined us after we'd been there 15 minutes or so. He had taken Ada to Fry's Electronics looking for something (and had gotten lost so ended up on an expedition of sorts). S got to meet my kids, and we took some photos. E gave me tips on how to use my camera (which is the same as the one she was using). After we were there maybe half an hour, E had filled up her memory card, and they had to leave.

After they left, we went to grab a bite to eat at the hamburger place, back where we had been that morning. lol We had hamburgers (except for me - I got one to go and eat later, as I had a big lunch). Brenna had a grilled cheese, as she doesn't do burgers or any kind of ground beef, really. The little ones were happy, because we ordered them chocolate milk.

We said goodbye to my cousin after dinner and went back to my parents' house. We hung out for a little bit, then dh and I left to go out by ourselves and get ice cream. We decided against a movie, because nothing looked that good, and we didn't want to spend the money. We went to a place called Lappert's ice cream, which I hadn't had since our honeymoon on Maui. They used to be exclusively located in Hawaii, but they've expanded. It was really good ice cream, albeit expensive. We went to Target afterward. Dh was still obsessed with finding a laptop sleeve for my laptop, but they didn't have any good ones. We left Target, and went home to get to bed early, so we could go back to Disneyland the next day.
