This is great. I love how they're all reacting in different intelligent but personal ways.

My personal favourite was the line:

Byakuya acknowledged his presence in a manner meant to suggest he would rather ignore it...

Thank you very much!

I'll admit to being partial to that line myself.

I find that I draw heavily from Laurence Harvey's performance in The Manchurian Candidate whenever I'm writing Byakuya--he delivers that sort of look perfectly.

And also a bit of something I vaguely remember seeing in Saki somewhere -- "the studied unconcern of a Persian cat entering a crowded salon", I think it was.

"the studied unconcern of a Persian cat entering a crowded salon"
As a proud human owned by an uppity Persian cat, I know exactly what is meant by that saying!
Seriously, I am liking this story. Some very interesting implications with the return of those who have been dead for a long time. So far they all seem to have died in battle, but I'm sure that could/will change :)
As with the Winter War, I love your interpretation of the individual characters.

I'm so glad you like this. And yes, there ramifications of the dead coming back are interesting to play with indeed. There are some situations I can imagine that would be mixed blessings at best, and I have plans to play with some of those.

It's funny you mention Winter War. One thing I've been enjoying about this project is that I've been able to work with some of the characters who were killed off or sidelined in that one. It's good to hear that you like how I'm working with them.

By the way, this was my favorite line:

Unohana smiled at Byakuya. He took a step back.
