Part 1: The Basics
1. What is your full name?
Lois Joanne Lane
2. Where and when were you born?
August 17, 1986
3. Who are/were your parents? (Know their names, occupations, personalities, etc.)
Ella Lane and General Samuel Lane
4. Do you have any siblings?
Yeah, Lucy, the little fool.
5. Where do you live now, and with whom?
I live in a cute little studio apartment by myself.
6. What is your occupation?
Investigative reporter, though I do have a bad habit of writing op-ed pieces.
7. Write a full physical description of yourself (you might want to consider factors such as: height, weight, race, hair and eye color, style of dress, and any tattoos, scars, or distinguishing marks).
I’m 5’8”, about 135 to 140lbs, and very much in shape. My hair is dark-I have bangs in front, and usually wear it pinned up these days. My eyes are hazel, I’ve been told, and I’m white. At work I’ll tend to wear business suits, usually with skirts, though sometimes slacks. Skirts make it easier to flash a little leg-perfect for distracting unsuspecting males. Outside of work I’ll wear comfortable old jeans and tank tops.
And sometimes I steal Clark’s plaid just for the amusement value.
8. To which social class do you belong?
Probably approximately middle class.
9. Do you have any allergies, diseases, or other physical weaknesses?
I'm allergic to Clark's damned dog that keeps getting all over me every frickin' time I go over. Shut up it's not my dog, Clark.
10. Are you right- or left-handed?
Right.
11. What does your voice sound like?
I’ve been told I’m loud.
12. What words and/or phrases do you use very frequently?
What the hell?
Newsflash: […]
OLSEN!
The news waits for no one.
[Insert cursing.]
Smallville!
Goddammit, Perry--
13. What do you have in your pockets?
Not much at the moment. In my purse, however: recorder, wallet, check-book, phone, press pass, pad, pens, keys, pepper spray, hair brush, make-up, aspirin, lighter, hand sanitizer, iPod and earbuds, chocolate bar… I think there might be more, I’d have to look through it…
Also lock-picks.
14. Do you have any quirks, strange mannerisms, annoying habits, or other defining characteristics?
I’ve been told I’m loud, and bossy, and quite often rude. I bite my lip sometimes. I have a tendency to get in people’s spaces, and sometimes I’ll give someone a friendly punch in the shoulder.
Part 2: Growing Up
15. How would you describe your childhood in general?
Insane. We moved around constantly, we never really settled or put down roots. …Lonely, if you count the years after my mother’s death as a childhood at all.
16. What is your earliest memory?
I can’t be sure, but it might have been Daddy carrying me in to see Mommy and my baby sister the day Luce was born.
17. How much schooling have you had?
High school graduate, and one semester of college. …Kind of. Sort of. More or less.
18. Did you enjoy school?
I usually tried to get out of it.
19. Where did you learn most of your skills and other abilities?
…The General or on my own, probably. I learned martial arts and shooting from him, and how to organize things. I learned a lot of things on my own. Oh, and Martha taught me a little about how to survive on my own, actually. She’s the only reason I don’t live completely on take-out and microwave-ables.
20. While growing up, did you have any role models?
Mom. Daddy too.
21. While growing up, how did you get along with the other members of your family?
Mom was great. Things were worse when she died. …And after that Daddy and I just never really saw eye to eye. Lucy’s a whole other kettle of fish.
22. As a child, what did you want to be when you grew up?
I… really don’t know. I think I didn’t like to think about that.
23. As a child, what were your favorite activities?
Running around making it up as I went along.
24. As a child, what kinds of personality traits did you display?
Apparently extroverted, but I never really got close to people.
25. As a child, were you popular? Who were your friends, and what were they like?
Not really. We never stayed anywhere for me to really get that established in a social group, and I’m pretty abrasive sometimes. I liked being the bitch. I got along better with guys than girls, that’s for certain. I was good friends with Wes Keenan while we were at that base. I loved him a little, actually-that first crush-that-is-almost-love sort of thing, that wouldn’t have lasted forever but was still, y’know, real.
26. When and with whom was your first kiss?
Wes. I was twelve.
27. Are you a virgin? If not, when and with whom did you lose your virginity?
Nope. I was… a high school sophomore, maybe? Anyway, it wasn’t great or really memorable, but I was curious. I think his name was Brad.
28. If you are a supernatural being (i.e. mage, werewolf, vampire), tell the story of how you became what you are or first learned of your own abilities. If you are just a normal human, describe any influences in your past that led you to do the things you do today.
I was always just bounced around like Daddy’s luggage, and then… then I thought we lost Chlo, and she left a message for a guy named Clark Kent, and I went to Smallville, and on the way lightning struck and drove me off the road, and there was this shockingly gorgeous naked guy in a cornfield who didn’t remember his own name, and then it turned out he was the often-raved-about Clark Kent, and he and his parents offered me their home (and his bedroom). And Jonathan had me run his campaign. It was the first time anyone… really thought I was responsible and trusted me with something. And then a barn door flew out of nowhere and I got a job at the Inquisitor with the story-and then nearly dying at an underground fight club got me a job at the Planet.
…So my life is kind of really, really weird.
3: Past Influences
29. What do you consider the most important event of your life so far?
…I have no freakin’ clue. There’s a lot of them. Mom dying. Chloe pretending to die that got me to Smallville. My first story published, maybe?
Clark with a knife in his gut, after he’d said goodbye in his ridiculously obtuse way.
…Not the plane itself, or the interview with the president, but- I think the whole world shifted a little that day. Not literally though, and now I have to specify that because there’s a superhero who can toss planets, for crying out loud.
30. Who has had the most influence on you?
Daddy. Martha and Jonathan.
31. What do you consider your greatest achievement?
I am, in fact, the best investigative reporter at the Daily Planet, thank you very much-and did I mention I have gotten every major quote from the Blur to date, and interviewed the President, no holds barred?
…But I also got Jonathan Kent elected. And that ended up putting Martha Kent in the US Senate. That might be the most important thing I ever do.
32. What is your greatest regret?
Not doing better with Lucy. I dunno. I try not to think about this sort of thing much. …I got Carter Hall killed.
33. What is the most evil thing you have ever done?
I… don’t really know for certain?
34. Do you have a criminal record of any kind?
35. When was the time you were the most frightened?
Having a gun to my head-Lionel or Slade, take your pick-or any of the times I’ve been tied helpless to a chair. I really don’t like that feeling in the least. That basement with the knife-possessed-guy, or with the crazy-jeweler-guy. The Lionel-and-gun also fits that, actually. And the cross with the fire-what the hell, I really hope the actual Luthor doesn’t think of that, because that’s so many levels of sick.
…conner.
36. What is the most embarrassing thing ever to happen to you?
Bunny. Goddammit.
There… seems to have been a thing with red meteor rock, lipstick, a Whitesnake mix CD, and Clark. I don’t remember it. Just the CD was bad enough.
37. If you could change one thing from your past, what would it be, and why?
…Probably Mom dying. Jonathan’s the second on that list.
38. What is your best memory?
The day we won that election.
Clark standing up in the sunlight after that night with Zod.
…Seeing that figure outside Air Force One, and the sky clearing. Just-I can’t even…
39. What is your worst memory?
Mom’s death, then Jonathan’s.
Part 4: Beliefs And Opinions
40. Are you basically optimistic or pessimistic?
I’m kind of a cynic. Except not really, not entirely. I do believe we can do better. But I’ll deny that.
41. What is your greatest fear?
Being helpless and without any control left over the situation. Without hope, in a world without heroes.
Being alone forever.
42. What are your religious views?
Eh, I think I’m nominally Christian. I generally don’t bother thinking about it.
43. What are your political views?
Dinah Lance and I come to blows over this. Heh. I’m pretty liberal-although maybe a little bit more sympathetic to a need for a strong military than most liberals would appreciate. Sure, I don’t support warhawk kinds of things, and piss my dad off no end, but… I do get it, actually. And eh, I might be more economically moderate. But socially, at least, I’m definitely liberal. Do not get me started on women’s rights unless you want to throw down, and believe me, I will win.
44. What are your views on sex?
It’s fun as hell when it’s good. It’s really all about expectation from both sides. If you know it’s a fling, have fun with it. There’s no reason not to have sex in a relationship if you both know the boundaries and what you expect. And good sex is seriously good.
45. Are you able to kill? Under what circumstances do you find killing to be acceptable or unacceptable?
I… probably technically could. I have yet to find a situation in which I actually would.
46. In your opinion, what is the most evil thing any human being could do?
Hurt an innocent soul deliberately and viciously-rape and child abuse especially.
47. Do you believe in the existence of soul mates and/or true love?
Soul mates require the existence of souls, which I’m not convinced of. True love? Eh. Love is real and is sometimes even tangible-yes, sex can be a symptom of love, although not always and probably not usually-and I’d say ‘true love’ is anything that can endure, or is… um, consuming and fulfilling deep. But people can have that and move on if something goes wrong (death, falling out of love). So in that sense, ‘true love’ is a bit of a fiction, probably.
…yes.
48. What do you believe makes a successful life?
Being… satisfied, at least, and proud of the work you do, and that you’ve done some tangible good for the world.
49. How honest are you about your thoughts and feelings (i.e. do you hide your true self from others, and in what way)?
Ahah. I’m known for being loud about what I think. I’m pretty much an open book. Except not really, actually.
50. Do you have any biases or prejudices?
Anyone who says they don’t is blatantly lying. Of course I do.
51. Is there anything you absolutely refuse to do under any circumstances?
Probably kill. Compromise my ethical code.
52. Who or what, if anything, would you die for (or otherwise go to extremes for)?
Getting to truth the public needs to them, and to do what little someone like me can for social justice and our world, and protecting the people I love.
Part 5: Relationships With Others
53. In general, how do you treat others (politely, rudely, by keeping them at a distance, etc.)?
I’ve been told I can be abrasive and rude. I don’t try to be rude until I know someone deserves it. But yeah, I’ve been told I’m abrasive.
54. Who is the most important person in your life, and why?
…Who is? At this exact moment? I dunno. Perry maybe, he’s… really… he’s been amazing lately. I haven’t felt like this since Jonathan Kent died.
Yeah, I’m lying. Shut up.
55. Who is the person you respect the most, and why?
Perry White. He’s my benchmark for what to be better than, because then I’ll be just about unbeatable.
Daddy.
56. Who are your friends? Do you have a best friend?
Clark. Chloe. Oliver. Martha, I’d like to think. Jim, before he died. Wes, same thing. And again, Jonathan I’d like to think, before he died. AC, kind of, in a “I knew him for about three seconds” sort of way. Perry in the ‘he’s my boss’ sort of way.
57. Do you have a spouse or significant other?
No.
58. Have you ever been in love?
Yes.
59. What do you look for in a potential lover?
I-- …I don’t know. I seem to have a serious thing for guys who want to save the world. I want someone who’ll come home to me-in heart, if he can’t always in fact.
60. How close are you to your family?
Not.
61. Have you started your own family? If so, describe them. If not, do you want to? Why or why not?
No. You mean me as a mother? God, it’d be a federally certifiable disaster. I’m not really good wife-and-mother material.
62. Who would you turn to if you were in desperate need of help?
Clark. Martha. Chloe. Oliver. Track down that superhero club if it were a life-or-world-in-peril kind of thing.
63. Do you trust anyone to protect you?
Myself. I don’t need a protector. It’s handy, but I seriously don’t need it.
…Clark.
64. If you died or went missing, who would miss you?
Dunno. Daddy if he’s feeling charitable. Probably Chloe. Maybe Perry or Martha.
65. Who is the person you despise the most, and why?
Rumor has it Lex used to be decent, so probably Lionel’s to blame for that. Guess that’d put him at the top of my list, at least until Lex proves to be worse. I fully expect him to.
66. Do you tend to argue with people, or avoid conflict?
Hi, I’m Lois Lane, have you met me?
67. Do you tend to take on leadership roles in social situations?
I don’t think I try to take on leadership roles. I’m definitely noticeable, though.
68. Do you like interacting with large groups of people? Why or why not?
Depends on what’s going on.
69. Do you care what others think of you?
Not really, except the people I really respect and care about.
Part 6: Likes And Dislikes
70. What is/are your favorite hobbies and pastimes?
Monster trucks. TV news drinking games. Occasionally karaoke.
71. What is your most treasured possession?
Probably my Whitesnake collection.
72. What is your favorite color?
Red.
73. What is your favorite food?
Ooh, a good solid burger. Or beef bourguignon. …And Martha’s apple pie kind of is like the ambrosia of the gods.
74. What, if anything, do you like to read?
Daily Planet and the papers that like to think they’re her best competition. Sometimes adventure books or satire if I’ve got the time. Mysteries are fun too.
75. What is your idea of good entertainment (consider music, movies, art, etc.)?
Classic eighties rock, watching football and telling them what they’re doing wrong. I do kind of love a good action movie, and… okay, most things with good writing I do enjoy. Oh, and satire shows and writing are awesome when done well and make me want to kill something when done badly.
76. Do you smoke, drink, or use drugs?
I’ve smoked before, I got off it when I got to Smallville. I drink socially.
77. How do you spend a typical Saturday night?
Watching the news, writing the news if I’m still at work, watching the news or some TV. Maybe doing stuff at home. Maybe, if I’m really bored, I’ll head to the Ace o’ Clubs and drink for a while or something.
78. What makes you laugh?
Driving Smallville nuts-the guy, though the town to a lesser extent I guess. Martha’s incredible, subtle brand of humor I wish I could emulate. Chloe when she’s in a chipper mood. Oliver being what he thinks is suave. Smart, snarky humor.
79. What, if anything, shocks or offends you?
Twisting the truth for selfish purposes. Bigotry. Disrespect for human life (okay, so there might be aliens out there, from… uh, something that came up in an incident with a lunatic, so why don’t we make it sentient life?). Being willing to subjugate other people. Hypocrisy. Small-mindedness. Cruelty to innocents. Wanton exerting of power over others for personal gain or entertainment, etc.
80. What would you do if you had insomnia and had to find something to do to amuse yourself?
Write an op-ed, maybe. Or watch a good movie. Or dance to some music. I dunno. Do house chores if I was going that crazy.
81. How do you deal with stress?
Not great. I overwork and flip out a little bit and wig out.
82. Are you spontaneous, or do you always need to have a plan?
…I’d say I try to plan things with military precision, and I do sometimes, but… seriously, if you can’t make it up by the seat of your pants, you’re doing it wrong.
83. What are your pet peeves?
See the things I mentioned that shock and offend me. General complete idiocy. Talking badly about or mistreating my friends.
Part 7: Self Images And Etc.
84. Describe the routine of a normal day for you. How do you feel when this routine is disrupted?
Up by 6:30, get house things done because who the hell knows when I’ll be back in. Shower, maybe eat food. Otherwise pick up coffee on the way to work, maybe a donut. If I’m in the mood, stop by the basement and insult Cat and steal whatever coffee and food Smallville’s got on his desk. Work until I decide to go home. Eat during the day when I remember to.
85. What is your greatest strength as a person?
I don’t give up.
86. What is your greatest weakness?
I suck at the whole personal-connection thing.
87. If you could change one thing about yourself, what would it be?
I don’t think I really would. I’m proud of who I am. Though I maybe could do with a little patience.
88. Are you generally introverted or extroverted?
Extroverted. …Except in the sense that I act it and don’t actually let most people close.
89. Are you generally organized or messy?
Uh… if I have a reason to be organized, I’m totally trained in military precision? Although I’ve been told my closets should be designated national disaster areas…
90. Name three things you consider yourself to be very good at, and three things you consider yourself to be very bad at.
Good: Getting the truth, writing about my opinions, working for social justice.
Bad: Relationships, being an understanding person, having a life.
91. Do you like yourself?
I think so, yeah. I know I refuse to compromise on who I am, so that probably means I like myself, right?
92. What are your reasons for being an adventurer (or doing the strange and heroic things that RPG characters do)? Are your real reasons for doing this different than the ones you tell people in public? (If so, detail both sets of reasons...)
I don’t entirely know. Just… there’s truth out there, and things to change, and someone should.
93. What goal do you most want to accomplish in your lifetime?
Huh. I’m not sure. Pulitzer doesn’t count… and ‘making a real difference’ is too vague. I guess I’m still making it up as I go along, I just know at least which road I’m taking to get there.
94. Where do you see yourself in 5 years?
With a goddamn Pulitzer, thank you very much, and hopefully my own office.
95. If you could choose, how would you want to die?
God, that’s morbid. I don’t really see myself with the whole ‘quietly getting old with someone’ thing, so… probably on the job, trying to get to a story or help the heroes. At least, that’s given my track record so far. Maybe I should start an office betting pool on it…
96. If you knew you were going to die in 24 hours, name three things you would do in the time you had left.
Call my family and friends and have a quick chat, leave any notes on outstanding things (like who’s gonna put that hit on me, probably) for Clark to finish up because I know he will, and maybe-well, barring stalking out to meet whatever it is head on and do my damnedest to take it with me (if that’s applicable, maybe it could be something not murder, but it’s unlikely with me), I might see if I could bribe or blackmail my way into some of Martha Kent’s pie, and if not polish off a carton of Rocky Road.
97. What is the one thing for which you would most like to be remembered after your death?
That I made some kind of difference-I hope I have, by then. That I got that story, The Story Of The Ages.
98. What three words best describe your personality?
Driven, stubborn, idealistic
99. What three words would others probably use to describe you?
Abrasive, loud, stubborn.
100. If you could, what advice would you, the player, give to your character?
That trip to Egypt? Was totally symbolic, ‘cause it’s where you live, sweetie. It’s not good for you. And if you keep doing this, you’ll end up doing some bad things to your heart and soul. You’ll be better off being honest with yourself. You were doing okay at it for a while, but you’re back in Denial Land again. You keep it in front, it might eventually heal up. You lock it away, you’ll always wonder why you’re not happy.
