"Killing Rommel" initial reaction

Killing Rommel is pretty damn fantastic.

The first fifty or so pages felt a bit awkward to me, perhaps because it's been nearly three years since I've read about special forces, perhaps because I've never read specifically about tank warfare or the battles in North Africa, perhaps because I was subconsciously expecting Gates of Fire: Part 2. I don't know. What I do know is that it took me a while to get into it, but once I was... wow. It was dense. I didn't stop to look at the maps at the beginning of the book, which I plan to utilize excessively on my next read through and which might have made life easier for me this go-around. It reminded me most of Andy McNab's Bravo Two Zero, in tone if nothing else.

Oh, and the last fifty pages or so are emotional as hell. I may have cried for the last few of them.

All in all, I'd recommend it.

So, todaysgoneby? bond_323? Have you started? What do you think so far? I looked up pictures of some of the historical characters (is "character" even the right word?) to see if any of them looked similar to my mental images. The only one vaguely close is Jake Easonsmith.
