So it's been some time... I know nobody sees this site except myself... and I actually kinda like that... and clearly, the only reason I'm actually posting anything is because I know I SHOULD be studying for my exam tomorrow... but there's only so much motivation in the tank.
Anyway, now that I've officially waited long enough to have no one checking my site, I can now restart posting stuff.
First order of business... I'm totally stoked about this weekend. 300 is finally out and while every straight male between 15 and 40 has been drooling over this movie for the last 6+ months, now that the day is nearly here, there's almost something depressing about it. Like when you wanted a gift so much as a kid that when you think you actually got it, you almost feel like it would be impossible to not be disappointed because it's been built up in your mind so much. So I guess I'd have to call my current feeling about this week's release of 300 'cautiously stoked.'
Maybe even weirder is that I almost feel like I lack direction suddenly. These last few months, all I've been doing is looking forward to this movie... and now it's here. What's there to look forward to now? I guess I could replace this obsession with any other 'highly-anticipated' movie (Harry Potter flick or a Spiderman sequel could fit this role), but it's just not the same. They're all too big budget, big name and really, just too corporate. No doubt the advertising for the 300 and the budget and so on are not all that different. But the general unfamiliarity of the general public with graphic novels and the work of frank miller makes the expectations less consumerist-friendly. In my mind, it's like when Firefly came out and was absolutely fantastic, but only a small audience was there to appreciate it. Speaking of Firefly, maybe someone will make a fantastic Firefly remake in 20-ish years a la Battlestar Galactica. We can only hope...
And I'm officially not able to keep my line of thought and should probably just get ready for bed...
