that's in addition to a couple of earlier things and some kinda cool native wildflowers.
soon comes the planting of veggies: greens (spinach, mustard, 3 kinds of collard), broccoli, summer squash, corn, a couple of types of beans, artichokes (seeds may not be viable anymore, sadly), cantaloupes, cayenne peppers, some taters, and probably a couple of other things i can't seem to think of.
this year is going to mostly be an experiment in what it takes to grow what and what i enjoy, since i just don't have much experience. given the lack of proper preparation/organization involved in my current methods (basically just picking an area and seeding-no proper tilling, nothing in rows, just kinda seeing what happens. as things sprout, i may thin or i may watch and see what survives/thrives without much personal influence. probably the latter, maybe with a little thinning here and there just to have a little perspective.
i will probably get a couple of spices/medicinals in the ground, but the whole lack of prep/organization bit means i probably won't have a proper well-laid out herb garden area.
i intend to get into ethnobotany-exotic or hard-to-find veggies/fruits/spices/natural medicines, anything that i can legally and plausibly within my own means grow around here (perhaps using a greenhouse..), all organic, and get a little sidebar going, just a little extra money. just seeds of hard-to-find variations of certain plants can fetch pretty good money, and i bought ths farm for a reason-not just to have some peace and quiet, or to build a compound for the day the shit finally totally hits the fan (though these are both reasons), but also so i can learn to support my own nutritional needs and perhaps a chunk of my financial ones off of my own land. now that's a living!
on an additional note, i have a 24-bit studio card setup now, and i am going to try to get cracking on recording again. it's about damned time, and if i get reasonably comfortable working on covers and demo tracks, i will probably be recording a full-length CD of my music. i don't know if anything could mean more to me than finally getting together a decent permanent respresentation of the most important thng in my life (people are not counted as "things")-not only that, but it'd sure make it easier to get radioplay/gigs with a halfway professional-sounding album. i will post links to anything that i feel is halfway decent. if those of you who haven't heard the older demo (now over 4 years old! i suck!) are interested in hearing it, it is broken up into mp3s (actually mp3 is all that is left of most of the master copies anyway-there wasn't much that could be done with them) at
http://www.esn.net/zer0sig - there are 3 tool covers (aenima, h, hooker with a penis), 1 alice in chains cover (love, hate, love), 1 nine inch nails cover (the becoming), 1 system of a down cover (spiders), and 4 originals (bluff, conscience, alone, pity throne)-enjoy if you have not previously, and i promise that i am working on putting down better quality recordings as i type this.
if you actually read through this whole post, kudos and thanks. i guess it was about time i post something tangible about my life as i live it. maybe i'll post about my financial worries later. right now, i'm hoping to keep the inspiration ball rolling and make something happen that hasn't happened for a few years now. thanks, those of you who are aware of the music situation that have been supportive and motivating-i may have finally reached critical mass largely due to your help. it means more than i can put into words, and i love you people for it.
