AMAZON PRINCE... Part 8

The next few days, Fey saw very little of the blond Amazon while he helped as much as he could around the healer's tent. Although he was instructed that his main goal was to recover and he shouldn't be moving so much he was glad to be useful in some way so he wouldn't have Nursemaid's nagging voice in his mind telling him he was being worthless again and the short dark-haired and brown eyed Amazon named Yoh seemed to appreciate it.

It soon fell into a routine, Yoh would check his wound to see if it was healing correctly and then Fey would help Yoh cook breakfast. After that, a few of the young warriors at some point would stop by for some herbs for a stomachache, a patching of a wound they had gotten while 'honing their skills' which the silent Amazon named Daisuke would see to, or help in bandaging a wound they had gotten while taking down the camp.

Fey wondered if it was his imagination or not that the number of people treated a day seemed to grow.

And the way the young and even old warriors stared at him! It was so unnerving but that wasn't his worst experience.

The worst occasion he had was when he'd been momentarily left alone while Daisuke went picking herbs in the forest and Yoh... well the quiet Amazon didn't tell him where she was going merely to mind the tent. While he left on his own, a young brown-haired warrior came in, smiled at him in a way that sent shivers up and down his spine and said they were in pain. Fey told the warrior he didn't know when the healer or Yoh, who he had assumed by now was the apprentice, would be back and he had no training to help him. The warrior then asked him to look anyway to ask his opinion.

Before Fey would even agree, the pantaloons were down and the deformity was staring him straight in the face, white liquid glistening in the light from the tent's makeshift window. The warrior then said that was what had been paining him and said her knew how Fey could help him before advancing on him, a glint in her eye not unlike when nursemaid spots a juicy piece of meat and Fey immedietely feared she would eat him.

Right before the Amazon could bite him, Yoh had appeared and coughed, gaining the Amazon's attention. The look that Yoh gave the cannibal Amazon was enough to even freeze his blood and he wasn't even on the receiving end of it.

The cannibal pulled up its pantaloons and fled.

After that Yoh, did not leave him unattended. So at the moment, Fey was helping to grind some herbs into a fine powder that would be used to stop wound swelling while Yoh was sorting through his newest collection of herbs.

"Fey, what do you know of men?" Yoh asked as she checked the quality of the witch-hazel.

Fey was completely thrown off guard. Since that question he had asked days ago was never answered, he had thought the topic of men was a forbidden subject in this nomadic village. Placing the grinding instrument gently in the crucible, Fey thought of all the descriptions he had heard his sisters whisper about, "I am told they are very hairy creatures much like wild boars and are known to act like them. From the grunts I heard from the mating tent, I think they sound like them too."

Fey was startled when Yoh stopped her inspection immediately and turned to him. "Fey, have you ever been in the mating tent?"

"No, my mother said the Goddess Hera said it was not yet time for me to bear. I don't even think I can have children. I've never had a moon cycle."

Yoh seemed shocked and Fey found a blush creeping along his face.

An intense brown eye bore into his. "Do you know the distingiushing organs of men and women?"

"What do you mean?"

"There are organs on the outside which distinguish men from women, not necessarily hair."

Fey's curiousity was peaked. "There are? What are they?"

"You need to discover that for yourself," Yoh said.

Fey sighed. It was just as well, he imagined that because his wound was nearly completely healed he would be sent on his way back home anyway and his mother would be horrified that one of the virgins had learned secrets of men before the Goddess decreed it was time.

He went back to grinding.

-----

Mikhail approached the healer's first wife as he picked herbs outside the forest. How anyone could tell one weed from another was beyond him.

"It is dangerous to be so far from camp you know."

A dark glare was cast his way. "Yes. And what of it? Are you suggesting I cannot defend myself?"

Mikhail recognized the threat in Yoh's voice. He knew that if he did not watch what he said right now, he might have a bad stomach ache the next day from a mysterious spice in his food. "No. Merely concern."

Yoh turned back to his picking.

"How is your charge?"

"Fey is fine. I suspect I might have to send him home soon."

Mikhail halted. "So he has told you where he is from then?" Leaning close to Yoh he asked in a voice trembling with anticipation. "Did he say who was his father? I wish to negotiate for Fey's hand in marriage." He liked the taste of that name on his lips.

"That might be hard seeing as he may have no father," Yoh said, standing up and settling the sac on his hip as a he started to walk at a leisurely pace back.

"An orphan recruit then or do I have to negotiate with an uncle?" Either way, Mik didn't have to worry about Fey being ineligible to be a first wife due to him being the only heir.

Yoh looked him straight in the eyes. "General, I have reason to believe he is from the Amazonian village."
