AMAZON PRINCE- Part 4
Mikhail helped carry the beautiful stranger with three other soldiers back to the physician’s tent back at camp under the watchful eyes of the physician, though he had to mind his leg. A small crowd had gathered on the outskirts of the camp, their expressions curious and anxious to see what the commotion had been about.
Having anticipated this after sending that idiotic mule of a soldier, Mikhail had cut the Amazonian tunic and strange device off of the wounded chest before the physician had come and thrown them in the forest, leaving it bear so all would know it was not an enemy he was bringing to camp, but an ally. Mikhail himself was half naked, the flesh of his chest shining from the recent bath; his armor, sword, and shirt were being carried by the physician’s first-wife, who was as silent and stoic as his husband although something in the way the brown eyes danced showed his intellect and his inquisitiveness regarding the new patient.
‘That one may be a problem,’ Mikhail thought when his drop-it stare was answered with a mere lifted eyebrow.
Ignoring the on-lookers, Mikhail pushed past them and followed the beckoning physician to his tent. “Lay him on the table General,” the physician ordered, his eyes veiled by shadow and emotionless as expert hands poked and prodded the slightly tanned flesh of his patient, examining the wound from every angle before signaling to his wife to retrieve his tools and bandages with a slight nod of his head.
“He will live?” asked Mikhail, capturing a lock of shining obsidian between two fingers and pushing it back from the patient’s face.
“The wound is not deep, but it all depends on the amount of blood he has lost and the damage,” the physician stated, his black eyes not raising from his patient. The first wife returned and placed the tools down. “Now, you must leave me to work.  Yoh, could you show the General out?”
Yoh silently gripped his arm and guided him away from the patient, although he had to struggle at first to get him to comply. Once they were beyond the tent, Yoh turned to him and said, “He is in good hands. I will send someone to find you when he dies or come to.”
Before Mikhail could reply, Yoh had returned inside the tent.
-----
“Yoh.” Yoh’s husband called half an hour after the General had left, his hand beckoning him closer.
“What is it Daisuke?” Yoh asked, one eyebrow lifted as he now noticed the patient was completely bare. It was his husband’s policy to check to see if there were any other wounds on his patient besides the obvious after treating the most prominent, so that wasn’t shocking. But seeing his husband stooped and examining something other than the patient was.
Yoh drew closer and leaned over Daisuke’s shoulders to see he was examining a gilded knife. “Is not that style Amazonian?” Yoh asked, recognizing it from having to pull similar knives from patients before.
“Yes, the patient was wearing these in straps around his legs. The pants I cut off were also made from Amazonian cloth.”
“Could he be an escaped plaything?” Yoh suggested, recalling stories from his childhood of Amazons using captured men as breeding stock.
“I doubt it. His body is skinny, true but he is accustomed to plenty of food and exercise. The leftovers we find have been starved. Plus, there is no blood on the knives.”
“Maybe he was a favorite or a pet and was allowed to wander?”
“I don’t know, but the arrow in his chest was clearly from our army. There is quite a story here.”
-----
Meanwhile…
“An Amazon?” Yanzhui laughed, a hand reaching out and gripping the foolish soldier by the throat. “Funny. Everyone else reports that it was definitely a man who was struck by your arrow.”
“It was an Amazon Sir! It had breasts…”
“And I suppose Mikhail hacked those off them and brought it here bare-chested?”
The foolish soldier was silent, knowing if he said anything more he would be killed right there. But he knew what he saw and that person was definitely a woman before.
“Not only that but you gave away your position.”
The soldier was silent.
“You are a fool,” Yanzhui observed. “But you can redeem yourself…”
The soldier’s head lifted at that in surprise. “How?”
“Kill Mikhail and frame the newcomer when we return to the palace.”
-----
Later that night…
“Fey?!” Nursemaid called as she searched the riverbanks. ‘Where is that foolish creature?’
The little male was probably somewhere sulking, but that didn’t stop her Queen from worrying. If only it could have died in some fever as a child, her problems would have been solved. However, the ugly creature had survived and she was forced to look after it for the rest of its life as though it were an infant.
“Fey!” she shouted again just as her foot tangled in something, she leaned down and was about to brush off when she recognized the texture as cloth. She picked it up and held it level with her eyes, noticing the large brown-red splash on the front with a hole. It had been the tunic Fey was wearing that morning when cooking.
What had that foolish male done now?
She sighed, knowing the Queen would blame her for the creature’s death. Not feeling like looking for a body in the dark, she put the tunic back where she found it. She’d just claim there had been no trace.
