We're going to Durham, North Carolina around September 15th. Anyone been there and have any ideas for us to do while we're there? Obviously kid fun stuff/ but not lame for us.

Also good vegan foods?

Anyone live near there and want to hang out?

jeremy's family, trip, north carolina

I used to live there!

The Museum of Life and Science is awesome--I totally recommend that. The Sarah Duke gardens are beautiful (as is the rest of the campus), and you can go there to feed the turtles and catfish in the ponds. There are a few historic sites you might want to check out: Duke Homestead, Stagville Plantation and another one that I forget the name of, but it's where they signed the armistice that ended the Civil War (this one is much less fun for kids--Duke Homestead is probably the best for kids).

Chapel Hill has great shopping on Franklin Street, if you're into that, and there's yummy vegan food at the Weaver Street Market in Carrboro, which is just adjacent to Chapel Hill. Weaver Street Market is generally a cool place to hang out, with jazz on the weekends and other stuff going on. If you're in Carrboro make sure to get a Loco Pop--yum!!!!

Aw, now you're making me miss it again...

It's usually still pretty hot and humid--still hurricane season, so still on the rainy side. But rain is shortlived and you can pretty much guarantee some sun in there. When I was there 2 weeks ago it was mostly overcast, warm and muggy, with a rainstorm or two thrown in.

But bring sweaters because any building you go into is freezing because of the a/c.

haha! OK! I'm pretty excited. Jeremy's sister's husband is doing his residency at Duke actually.

Alex and I went to asheville last year and it was lovely. Never been to durham though.

If you end up near asheville, it is the most vegan-friendly small city in the US. Go to Rosetta's Kitchen. OMFG amazing.

I love North Carolina, all of my family (except bro/sis) live in Souther Va (2 hours away), my bro & sis live in MD, my bestest friends parents (who ar elike my parents more than my own) live in Denver which is like 20 minutes away - the perfect location for my husband to get his PhD + tons of Chemistry jobs available, etc. etc. Plus hello NC? SO PRETTY!
