I know i'm late to the party but my hba1c was 7.1 when getting pregnant. My doctor realized right away though that the metformin wasn't cutting it so I was put on insulin by week 5. (i saw my ob as soon as my pregnancy test said positive at 3w6d) A week of testing frequently showed need for insulin. It was fine. I had dr. appt every 2 weeks the entire pregnancy except 30w+ had to visit weekly, and 32w+ twice weekly for NST monitoring and also amniotic fluid level checks.

Over the whole pregnancy I had 12 (13 really because we went to a place and paid for a 3d) or so ultrasounds (6w (potential miscarriage scan), 8w (dating scan), 13w (nt scan), 20w(anatomy scan), 23w (fetal echo scan (baby heart)), 26w (second fetal echo and anatomy scan (first anatomy scan didn't go so well, to unclear to see the right things), 28w(this and all next ones were checking amniotic fluid), 32w, 33w 34w 35w 36w. I had my baby at 37w1d (after being admitted to the hospital at 35w for expected oncoming pre-e and pregnancy induced hypertension).

Overall pregnancy was not that fun but really worth it in the end but since my health has not been doing well and so we are only having the one.
